PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tory Langley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Aloy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tory Langley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kevin Aloy!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Thiago Cunha and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aloy shoots in looking for a takedown but Langley manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Aloy's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
A little feinted left hand from Langley on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Aloy shoots and misses

and Langley counters with a shoot takedown. Aloy fights it but they end up in guard.

Aloy has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Langley off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Langley dives in for a single leg takedown but Aloy sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Aloy.
Tory Langley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kevin Aloy.

Langley tries to keep at a distance but Aloy has taken the fight into the clinch.
Langley digs a right hand into Aloy's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Aloy's gas tank.

Aloy decides to pull guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Langley is stalling in the full guard.
Aloy manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Langley manages to get himself to full guard.

Aloy wants to stand and escape but instead Langley has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Langley controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Aloy avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Langley scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Langley sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Langley drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Langley jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Aloy has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Langley can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Langley lands a couple of decent looking shots.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Langley gets to his feet. Aloy looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Aloy tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Langley defends well and Aloy ends up having to push Langley into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Langley changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Aloy tries to avoid it but Langley manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Aloy to the ground. Aloy escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Aloy shoots in looking for a takedown. Langley tries to sprawl out of it but Aloy keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Langley manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Aloy looks winded!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Aloy has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Langley avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Langley jumps guard but Aloy turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Aloy misses with a knee to the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Langley has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Aloy uses from the top position.

Langley really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Aloy looking to sit in guard and control but Langley gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Langley stands and steps away. Aloy gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Aloy shoots in and bounces Langley off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tory Langley will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Aloy is trying hard to land a takedown here. Langley sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Aloy fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Langley on the side of the head.

Langley seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Aloy has gone for a leg lock! Langley slips out almost immediately though and dives into Aloy's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Langley is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Aloy is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Aloy has escaped and now he's on top!

Aloy is looking to work some ground and pound but Langley has wrist control.

Aloy has his foot on Langley's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Langley works his way back into a safe position though.

Langley has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Langley stands up and waves to Aloy to follow him.

Langley jumps guard but Aloy stands there with Langley around his waist. Langley gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Aloy's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Aloy wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

No luck for Aloy with that takedown attempt.
Aloy takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Langley slips a jab and a cross from Aloy.

Langley tries to counter with a takedown but Aloy is quick to defend against it.

Langley decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Aloy, up you get!

Langley feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Tory Langley showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Langley, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
