PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Luis Caldas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Brigante (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tony Brigante will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Luis Caldas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tony Brigante!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Roosa Järviläinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brigante lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Brigante throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Brigante gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Caldas is standing up over Brigante. Brigante looks to escape but Caldas dives into side control.
Caldas is looking to take a break and control but Brigante is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Caldas is trying to get an arm triangle but Brigante is defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Brigante can't do much from the bottom here.
Brigante is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Caldas asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Caldas thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Brigante wants to stand but Caldas is controlling his arm.
Caldas tries to buck Brigante off but Brigante is having none of it.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Caldas shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Brigante as he jumps to the side.

so Caldas counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Brigante thuds his shin into the meat of Caldas's side.
Brigante throws a head kick that half lands.
Left hook, right uppercut from Brigante.
Brigante gets off balance looking for a body kick

and Caldas counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Caldas is looking for submissions but instead, Brigante has regained full guard.

Brigante has his foot on Caldas's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Caldas works his way back into a safe position though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Caldas has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Brigante can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Brigante wants to stand but Caldas is controlling his arm.

Brigante working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Caldas wants to take a breather but Brigante is having none of it.

Caldas is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Brigante is just riding it out for now. Caldas eventually gives up the hold.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tony Brigante showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Caldas's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Thud! ouch! good body kick from Brigante - that will leave a mark!

Caldas shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brigante is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

Caldas jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Brigante is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Brigante and Caldas has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Caldas goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Brigante has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Caldas but great work by Brigante.

Brigante is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Caldas has escaped the position, nice work there.
Caldas manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Caldas working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Brigante doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Brigante manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Caldas looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Luis Caldas.
I think Caldas has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
