PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hank Duran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ykong For (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Ykong For was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hank Duran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ykong For!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Robert Douchet and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Duran clinches.
For looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Duran drags the fight down to the ground.
Duran might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Duran pulls For in close to prevent any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Duran manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Duran lands a body shot in the clinch.
Duran pushes For back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Duran is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Duran utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.
Duran lands with a right to the head.

Duran has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics For uses from the top position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Duran is pulling down on For's head. It's preventing any offense from For, at least for the moment.

Duran has his foot on For's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. For works his way back into a safe position though.

Duran throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Duran looking to hit a scissor sweep but For is one step ahead there.
For looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Duran seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
For stops Duran from standing up.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Duran manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. For manages to get himself to full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Duran drops back looking for a leg! For is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and For manages to kick Duran off! Duran jumps back into For's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Duran with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Duran content to stall in guard here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Duran shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches For napping and manages to drive through into side control!
For is trying to escape the position but Duran is controlling the position.
For is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Duran seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down For for as long as he can get away with.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Duran's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hank Duran dominated that round.

That's time! Duran's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Duran throws a right and a left that For avoids nicely.

Duran moves into the clinch successfully.

Duran pulls guard.
Duran is looking to stand up but For isn't so interested in that idea.
Duran wants to sweep but no luck.

For got a little sloppy there for a moment and Duran has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, For has managed to get both his arms back between Duran's legs - danger averted.
Duran is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Duran is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

For stopping the sweep attempt from Duran.
For stops Duran from standing up.

Duran had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. For defends it easily.
Hank Duran overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
For trying to control the position from guard on top but Duran is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Duran dives in and scores a takedown into For's guard.
For trying to control the position.
Duran engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Further stalling from Duran.
Duran has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Duran thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Duran seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
For is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Duran looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
For is trying to keep Duran in close.
Duran not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Duran drives through and clinches with For against the cage.
Duran manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
A short right from Duran.

Duran gets control of For's arms and successfully pulls guard. Duran will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Duran bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in For's guard.

Duran controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Duran is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Duran is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that For can do to turn this around?

Duran is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
For working a defensive guard here.
Duran sitting in guard, not really doing much.
For wants to sweep here but Duran controlling him for the moment.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Duran not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
For controls Duran momentarily but Duran frees himself.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Ykong For has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Hank Duran is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

For gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Duran counters with a two punch combo.

And that's the end of the fight!
Hank Duran showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Duran has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
