PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Esteban Luna (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marco Reyes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Reyes has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Marco Reyes has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Esteban Luna's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marco Reyes!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reyes shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Luna counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Reyes looks winded!

Luna has closed the distance and engaged Reyes in a clinch.

Luna escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Reyes shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Luna counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Luna shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Reyes is trying to defend but Luna finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Reyes pushes Luna off but Luna dives into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Luna knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Reyes on the ground.

Reyes goes for a double leg but Luna avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Luna continues to drive forward.
Luna looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.

Luna's jab looks to have found its range, popping Reyes under the eye.
Reyes drops his hands momentarily and Luna takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Luna lands a big shot there that rocks Reyes but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Reyes wants to try and get back to his feet.
Luna tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Luna seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Reyes for as long as he can get away with.
Luna has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Luna drops down looking for a counter takedown but Reyes sprawls and moves away.

Luna drives through with a takedown into Reyes's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Luna really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Luna decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Luna fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Reyes, pushing him back against the cage.

Luna has picked Reyes up - he's going for a ride! Luna dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Luna in particular looking to stall.

Reyes has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Luna is working away from the top position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Luna is figuring out what he wants to do next.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Luna.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Reyes tries to keep at a distance but Luna has taken the fight into the clinch.

Luna gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Luna rushes Reyes and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Luna has Reyes pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Luna pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Reyes tumbling to the mat - Luna dives into Reyes's guard.

Luna stands and steps away. Reyes gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

and Reyes takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Marco Reyes is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Reyes on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

Luna closes the distance and pushes Reyes back into the cage.

Luna pulls guard effortlessly.
Reyes won't allow Luna to sweep him here.

Luna manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Luna tries to counter by clinching up but Reyes breaks away and moves out of range.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!

Luna is trying to trip Reyes. He has hold of a leg but Reyes is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Luna persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Luna decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Reyes pushes Luna off but Luna dives into side control.
Luna is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Reyes's shoulder. That is not cool.
Reyes is trying to work for a sweep but Luna has mounted him!

Reyes felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

BOOM! Luna connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Luna takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Luna lands a couple of good shots and Reyes has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

Luna has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Reyes's body.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Esteban Luna is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Luna's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
