Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gilbert Day (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ljuta Kopriva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ljuta Kopriva has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gilbert Day!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ljuta Kopriva!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kopriva closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kopriva lands in his opponent's guard.

Kopriva is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Day has escaped the position, nice work there.
Day is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Kopriva is controlling him well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Day is not content to let Kopriva control the position.
Day tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kopriva wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Kopriva decides to stand back up. Kopriva steps back and let's Day get back to his feet.
Day fails with the takedown.
Kopriva circles away from the clinch attempt.
Kopriva shoots in for a takedown but Day shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
A little feinted left hand from Day on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Kopriva looks to land a right hand but Day moved out of range.

Day shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Day in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Kopriva is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Day is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Kopriva is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Kopriva has escaped and now he's on top!

Day controls Kopriva momentarily but Kopriva frees himself.
Kopriva tries to free his leg and advance position but Day is retaining full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Day is on top in guard.

Kopriva looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Kopriva is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Day is aware though and is defending well.
Day throwing strikes but missing.

Kopriva wanted to stand there but Day had control of the position.
Day is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Day is really struggling to control Kopriva but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Day manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Kopriva lands with a hook. Day tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kopriva goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Kopriva throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kopriva dives in for a single leg takedown but Day sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Day tries to counter by clinching up but Kopriva breaks away and moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ljuta Kopriva dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Day fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Kopriva to the ground. Day is now in Kopriva's guard.

Kopriva is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Kopriva blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Day misses with a punch to the body.
Kopriva blocks an elbow strike from Day.
Kopriva has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Day avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Day thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Day is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kopriva is looking for a triangle but Day pushes his legs off easily.
Day throws a big right hand that misses.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Day is in close to Kopriva's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Kopriva wants to sweep here but Day controlling him for the moment.

Day postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Kopriva is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Day, into his guard.

Ljuta Kopriva has got the better of the ground game so far.

Day is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Day is pulling down on Kopriva's head to control his posture.
Day wants to sweep here but Kopriva controlling him for the moment.

Day is looking to stand up but Kopriva isn't so interested in that idea.
Day is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Kopriva has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Day is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kopriva defends it well.

That was a close second round but I would say that Gilbert Day will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Kopriva's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Kopriva shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Day as he avoids it easily.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Day manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kopriva manages to get himself to full guard.


Day drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Day jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Kopriva throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Day was covering up waiting for the punch and Kopriva finishes the takedown easily into guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Day manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Day is looking to control Kopriva's arms but Kopriva gets an underhook and turns him. Now Day has his back to the cage.
Kopriva has Day pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Day manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Day has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Kopriva uses from the top position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

I think Day has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
