The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thomz leaves Mendes with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Mendes keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Mendes tries to counter with a takedown but Thomz is quick to defend against it.
Mendes shoots in for a takedown but Thomz shows good takedown defense.
As Mendes backs off Thomz throws a huge counter combo but Mendes manages to avoid it all.
Thomz shoots in but no luck this time.
Thomz tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mendes sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Thomz somewhat.
Mendes changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Augusto Mendes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Papa Thomz.

Mendes shoots in for a takedown but Thomz shows good takedown defense.

Mendes throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Thomz tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Mendes is in Thomz's guard.

Thomz has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mendes is working away from the top position though.

Thomz really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mendes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Thomz tries to roll over but Mendes keeps him under control.
Mendes works his foot free and advances to mount.

Mendes throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Thomz has his hands clasped together but Mendes breaks the hold and Thomz is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Mendes!
