PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ground Guru (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Din Yaj (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ground Guru!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Din Yaj!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Tiny Johnson and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yaj looks to land a right hand but Guru moved out of range.
Guru seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Guru is trying hard to land a takedown here. Yaj sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Yaj throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Guru changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Guru avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Guru tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
It seemed like Yaj was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Sloppy strikes from Guru. Those never looked like landing.
Yaj throws a hook but Guru blocks it.
Horrible takedown attempt by Guru or perhaps it was just good defense by Yaj, which made it look bad.
Guru throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Yaj counters with a two punch combo.

Guru shoots in and gets a takedown into Yaj's guard.

Guru throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Yaj works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Guru misses with a takedown attempt - Yaj sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

A telegraphed right hand from Yaj misses the target.
Guru misses with a takedown attempt - Yaj sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Yaj misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Guru.
Guru attempts a counter takedown but Yaj avoids it well and moves away.
Guru shoots for a double leg takedown but Yaj sprawls well. He's pushed Guru's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Guru uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Yaj.
Yaj is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Guru.
Guru tries to score a power double leg takedown but Yaj sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Guru somewhat.
Yaj stuffs the takedown attempt from Guru. Guru gets slowly back to his feet.

Yaj lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Yaj lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Yaj throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Guru appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Yaj scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Guru avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Yaj lands a nice looking body shot.
Yaj bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Guru's head backwards.
Yaj throws a series of punches but Guru avoids them all with ease.
Nice straight punches there by Yaj. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Yaj.
Yaj connects with a body shot that sends Guru's belly button to the back.
Yaj scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Guru throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Yaj connects with the punch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Din Yaj dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Yaj throws a right hand that Guru ducks under and follows up with a left that Guru also avoids with ease.
Guru half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Guru steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Yaj.

Yaj gets caught napping as Guru dives in and scores a takedown. Yaj manages to retain guard.
Yaj is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Yaj lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Guru tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Yaj postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Guru is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Yaj off and has taken his back!
Yaj wants to escape the position.

Guru has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Yaj has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Yaj manages to reverse the position and now he's in Guru's guard. Nice work there by Yaj.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Yaj seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Guru is fighting to break Yaj's control of his arms but Yaj is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Yaj is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Yaj is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Guru doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Yaj.

Guru has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Yaj lands a couple of digs.
Guru wants to sweep here but Yaj controlling him for the moment.

Guru is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Yaj is aware though and is defending well.
Yaj sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Yaj with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Yaj not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Guru had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Yaj defends it easily.

Ground Guru has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Yaj postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Guru wants to control but Yaj passes easily into half guard.
Yaj looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Guru with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Yaj lands with a punch from half guard.
Yaj is trying to control the action in half guard but Guru is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

I would just about give that final round to Din Yaj.
I've got Yaj winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
