PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Blake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Danny Green (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tommy Blake!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Danny Green!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Trevor Gratis and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Blake tries to clinch but Green moves away
and Green counters with a three punch combo that has Blake backing up. Blake nods at Green to acknowledge the strikes.
Blake wants to clinch up but Green keeps it at a distance.
Green is looking for the big counter here.
Blake looks to land a combination but Green avoids it well.

Green lands a left and a right that send Blake crashing to the mat, dazed. Green thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


It looks like Tommy Blake has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Blake leaves Green with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Blake defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Green.
Blake throws an overhand right that lands on Green's shoulder, as Green tries to avoid the shot.
Green is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Blake misses with a wild combination.
Green slips a jab and a cross from Blake.
And Green tries to counter it with a takedown but Blake pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Blake throws a series of punches but Green avoids them all with ease.
Blake takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Blake tries to clinch up.
Green throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Blake's waist but Blake gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Green off to one side.
Tommy Blake has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Danny Green.
Blake lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Blake moves in looking to clinch but Green pushes him off.
Green misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Green misses with a takedown attempt - Blake sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Green stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Green wants it to stay on the feet.
Green tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Blake defends well and Green ends up having to push Blake into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Green.
Green on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Green is defended easily by Blake.

Green throws a head kick that misses.
Blake is looking for a counter combo.
Green misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
No joy there for Blake, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Green wants to counter the offense by Blake and move into the clinch position.
Blake works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Blake feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Greens jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Green manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Blake on his heels. He'll look to pass Blake's guard now, I'm sure.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Green sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Blake's guard.
Green is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Green not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Well, if Green is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Green not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Green sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Blake defending well though.
Blake knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Green on the ground.
Blake is concentrating on defense, preventing Green from advancing position.

Blake is defending against the submission attempts here by Green.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Blake is looking to escape.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Green thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Blake's head.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Green shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Green escapes and gets back to his feet.
Blake is breathing heavily.
Blake goes for a double leg but Green avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Green continues to drive forward.
Blake stuffs the takedown.
Green circles away from the clinch attempt.
Green looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Danny Green will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Tommy Blake's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Green instigates a clinch.
Blake is trying to break the clinch but Green has him pressed against the cage.
Blake is pressed up against the cage. Green has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Blake down to the mat. Blake avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Blake gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Green stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Green pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Blake tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Green manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Green shoots in but no luck this time.
Blake wants to clinch up but Green keeps it at a distance.
Tommy Blake is winning the standup battle so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Green drives through and clinches with Blake against the cage.

Green jumps into guard, dragging Blake to the mat.
Green has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Green is on top in guard.

Green won't allow Blake to get back to his feet.

Blake on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Blake tries to get out of the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Green stands up and waves to Blake to follow him.
Green fails with a takedown attempt.

Blake shoots in but no luck this time.

and Green counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Blake tries to bum rush Green with a series of wild strikes but Green uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Green swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Green closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Blake's guard.
Blake is wriggling around but Green manages to pass to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.


Green postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Blake to stand up.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Blake looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Green is fending him off so far but Blake persists. Nope, Green circles away and we're back to standing.
Green shoots in but no luck this time.
Green looks for a takedown but Blake sprawls well.

Blake thows a left - swing and a miss!

Green moves into the clinch successfully.

Green decides to pull guard.
Green throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Danny Green has got the better of the ground game so far.
Blake is fighting to break Green's control of his arms but Green is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Blake loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Green is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Green decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Blake moves in looking to clinch but Green pushes him off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Danny Green showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Blake throws a nice looking combination but Green bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Green moves into the clinch.

Green breaks from the clinch.
Green closes this distance looking for a takedown but Blake circles away.

Blake darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Green kicks Blake off and gets back to his feet.

and Green counters with a lovely shot to the body.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Blake throws a body punch but Green moves out of range.

Green forces Blake back against the cage and clinches.
Green has Blake pressed against the cage, preventing Blake from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Green tries to score a body lock takedown but Blake shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Green escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Green looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Blake is fending him off so far but Green persists. Nope, Blake circles away and we're back to standing.
It looked like Blake was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Green takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Green moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Blake swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

Green has managed to clinch.
Blake wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Blake has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Green will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Green has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Blake can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Green had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Blake defends it easily.
Green managing to control the position.
Green looking to hit a scissor sweep but Blake is one step ahead there.
Green utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Green looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Green avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Blake trying to control but Green is working from the bottom.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Blake looking to sit in guard and control but Green gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Blake wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Green manages to pass to side control.
Green slows the pace down in half guard.

Green seems to be looking for submissions.
Blake keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Green is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Blake is just riding it out for now. Green eventually gives up the hold.
Tommy Blake has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Green is trying to work for a kimura but Blake is defending well.

And that's the end of the fight!
Danny Green comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Green has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
