PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mata Leon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and jason the warrior (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Leon comes to the cage accompanied by Bodies. the warrior has chosen afro brazzilian music as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mata Leon!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, jason the warrior!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Felipe Paraventi and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
the warrior displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Leon throws out the jab.
Leon throws a series of punches but the warrior avoids them all with ease.
Leon throws a nice looking combination but the warrior bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
the warrior looks for a takedown but Leon sprawls well.
Leon throws a jab when the warrior was well out of range.
Leon stuffs the takedown attempt from the warrior. the warrior gets slowly back to his feet.
Leon looks to throw the jab but the warrior is out of range.
the warrior shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Leon as he avoids it easily.
Mata Leon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of jason the warrior.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Leon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Leon connects with a body shot.
Leon thows a left - swing and a miss!
the warrior slips a jab from Leon.
Mata Leon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
the warrior blocks a jab.
the warrior throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Leon's waist but Leon gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing the warrior off to one side.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Leon is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by the warrior.
Mata Leon is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Leon misses with a double jab.
Leon connects with a body shot.
Leon thows a left - swing and a miss!
the warrior shoots for a double leg takedown but Leon sprawls well. He's pushed the warrior's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
the warrior slips a jab from Leon.
Leon misses with a straight left.
the warrior displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Leon throws out the jab.
Leon is looking to clinch but the warrior is avoiding it.
Leon is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Leon's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.
the warrior slips a straight right by Leon.
Leon is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
the warrior misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
the warrior looks gassed!
Nice sprawl there from Leon as the warrior shoots in.
Leon fails in his attempt to clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Leon lands a left and a right that sends the warrior crashing to the canvas! Leon dives into mount looking to finish!


the warrior is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Leon tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
the warrior is still in real trouble! Can Leon finish him?
the warrior seems to have recovered his senses.
Leon has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Leon's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Mata Leon just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
A telegraphed right hand from Leon misses the target.
Leon misses with a straight left.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mata Leon dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


No joy there for Leon, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Leon stuffs the takedown.
Leon cracks the warrior with an uppercut from hell and the warrior crumples to the canvas, he's out! Oh no, he's recovered and he's grabbed one of Leon's legs and pulled him into guard. The ref thought about stopping it there but he's let it go - good reffing!
Leon is looking to stand up but the warrior won't let him.
the warrior being controlled here, momentarily.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

the warrior has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Leon can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
the warrior is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Leon looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Leon knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for the warrior on the ground.
Leon stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. the warrior swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
the warrior trying to keep a closed guard but Leon is proving a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Leon tries to stand but the warrior is controlling from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
the warrior being controlled here, momentarily.

Leon gets to his feet - the warrior follows without any prompting.
the warrior ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
the warrior fails with a takedown attempt.
No joy there for Leon, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
A jab from Leon misses.
Leon throws the left hand but the warrior avoids the punch easily.
Leon looks to land a combination but the warrior avoids it well.
Leon fails with an attempt to clinch.
Leon misses with a few strikes there.
Leon drops the warrior with a nice combination! Leon dives into the warrior's guard, looking to finish!
the warrior can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Leon controls the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mata Leon dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Leon drops the warrior with a huge uppercut! the warrior drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes. Leon is raining down punches and the ref stops the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mata Leon!
Mata Leon is the new middleweight champion!
