PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tantalus Flay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Manolito Damhuis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Flay's entrance music is Outerspace- Revolution. A fine choice. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 31 - 11 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tantalus Flay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Manolito Damhuis!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Ackerman and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Flay misses with a hook. Damhuis ducked under it nicely.
Flay misses with a lunging right hand

and Damhuis counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Damhuis.
Damhuis is in close to Flay's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Flay is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Flay's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Flay is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Flay has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Flay throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Flay looking to hit a scissor sweep but Damhuis is one step ahead there.
Damhuis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Flay swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Damhuis uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Flay.
Damhuis avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
A head kick from Damhuis lands but Flay takes it in his stride.
Damhuis has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Flay.
Flay swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Damhuis tries a quick counter leg kick but Flay is wise to it.
Flay fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Damhuis manages to avoid it.
Damhuis now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Flay misses with a looping left.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Damhuis scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Flay is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Flay has hold of Damhuis's hands but Damhuis slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Flay regains full guard. Nicely done.
Flay is trying to control the position but Damhuis postures up.
Flay looking to hit a scissor sweep but Damhuis is one step ahead there.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Damhuis trying to control but Flay is working from the bottom.

Flay is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Damhuis throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Flay is trying to improve his position.
Flay is being controlled here.
You can see the frustration on Flay's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Flay tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Damhuis wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Damhuis taking a breather here.
Damhuis lands a few punches from side control.
Damhuis works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Damhuis wants to control but Flay is keeping him busy.
Flay tries to buck Damhuis off but Damhuis is having none of it.
Flay is working hard here to advance position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Manolito Damhuis dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Damhuis connects with a crisp jab.
Damhuis keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Damhuis misses the body punch
and Flay counters with a nice uppercut.
Flay misses with a low kick.
Damhuis slips a straight right by Flay.
Flay tries for a takedown but Damhuis sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Horrible takedown attempt by Flay or perhaps it was just good defense by Damhuis, which made it look bad.
Good leg kick by Flay there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Damhuis wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Flay pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Damhuis feints a counter leg kick.
Damhuis lands with a good body shot.
Damhuis cracks Flay with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Damhuis drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Flay defends it well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Damhuis connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Flay's hands.
Flay throws a big shot that misses.
Damhuis scores with a jab. Flay acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Damhuis stuffs the takedown attempt from Flay. Flay gets slowly back to his feet.
Damhuis has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tantalus Flay. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Flay throws a lazy uppercut
and Damhuis counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
A nice leg kick lands there from Damhuis.
Flay on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Damhuis. Damhuis obviously looking to wear him down.

Damhuis lands a right hook to the body.
Oh Flay is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Damhuis scores with a leg kick.
Flay gets tagged by a hook that puts him to sleep! Damhuis points and yells something to his unconcious foe before strutting off. Flay wakes up just in time to hear Damhuis thank his coaches in the post fight interview.
