PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Yoel Romero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Conor Conors (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Yoel Romero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Conor Conors!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Daniel Franklin and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Conors connects with a body shot.
Conors tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Romero defends well and Conors ends up having to push Romero into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Romero changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Conors tries to avoid it but Romero manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Conors to the ground. Conors escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Romero moves into range and clinches up with Conors.

Romero manages to pull guard.
Romero on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Romero tries to get out of the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Conors stands and steps away. Romero gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Romero moves into the clinch.

Conors has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Romero gets control of Conors's arms and successfully pulls guard. Romero will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Conors seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Romero pushes Conors off looking to stand but Conors dives back in and keeps control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Conors is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Romero presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Conors tries to circle away but Romero has him pinned against the cage.
Romero fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Romero fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Conors throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
enabling Romero to counter with a crisp jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Yoel Romero will probably get the nod.
That's time! Romero's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Romero dives in for a single leg takedown but Conors sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Conors shapes to counter with a head kick.

Romero gets a double leg takedown into Conors's guard.
Romero looking to sit in guard and control but Conors gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Conors drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Conors jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Romero is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Conors dives into side control.

Conors creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Romero sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Romero tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

Conors has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.

Romero is trying to get back to his feet but Conors has full control of the position and if anything, Romero has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Conors is looking for the choke from the back position but Romero is controlling his hands well.
Conors is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Romero wants to get back to his feet.
Conors is riding his opponent, not letting Romero buck him off.

Conor Conors showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!

You get the feeling that Romero really doesn't like being in this position too much.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Conors wants to finish this one by submission but Romero is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Conors.
Conors tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Romero is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

I think Conors has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
