Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vladimir Kovalev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Boom:LOD kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vladimir Kovalev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kevin James!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kovalev with a nice cross.


It looks like Kevin James has been cut.
James tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Kovalev scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

James tries to keep at a distance but Kovalev has taken the fight into the clinch.
Kovalev scores with a shot to the side of James's head.
Kovalev has James pressed against the cage.
The referee calls for Kovalev to work.
Kovalev seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.
Kovalev lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Kovalev goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Kovalev.
James tries to pull guard but Kovalev holds him up against the cage and eventually James drops back down to his feet.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that James has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
James is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

James breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

and James takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Kovalev lands with a right to the head.
James wants a takedown but no success here.
Vladimir Kovalev has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kevin James.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Kovalev creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
James is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Kovalev to keep the fight standing.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kovalev will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning James up against the cage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
The referee is keeping an eye on Kovalev - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

James misses with an elbow over the top.
James drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Kovalev gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Kovalev lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
James tries to circle away but Kovalev has him pinned against the cage.

Kovalev digs a right hand underneath James's ribcage. James let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Kovalev is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
James tries to land knees in the clinch but Kovalev avoids the damage to the body.
Kovalev is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

James jumps guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Kovalev stands and steps away. James gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Kovalev scores with a jab to the jaw.
Kovalev fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches James on the side of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vladimir Kovalev dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Kevin James's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Kovalev lands with a cross.
A punch lands to the side of James 's head but he takes it in his stride.


That has opened up Kevin James's cut even more.

Kovalev drops James with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but James looks back up at him and smiles so Kovalev waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.


James is rocked!
A head kick misses from James.
James is still on wobbly legs! Can Kovalev finish him?
Kovalev moves in close and cracks James with a massive right hand! James, frozen momentarily in time, tumbles to the canvas, already out cold! A brutal knockout by Kovalev!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Vladimir Kovalev!
The defeated Kevin James had this to say: 'Tough opponent, my hats off to him. I want to thank both my sponsors and coaches'.
