PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Phil Ure (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Freddie Adam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Phil Ure!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Freddie Adam!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Phil Schofield and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Adam will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
As Adam looks to move away, Ure throws a big counter combo but Adam just gets out of the way.
Adam shoots in looking for a takedown but Ure manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Adam's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
A low kick from Adam is predictable there

and Ure counters with a single leg into guard. Adam didn't expect that.

Adam is looking for a triangle but Ure pushes his legs off easily.

Ure drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ure jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Ure pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Adam is keeping the position for now.

Adam escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ure gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ure wants to pass the guard but Adam is keeping the position.

Ure got a little sloppy there for a moment and Adam has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ure has managed to get both his arms back between Adam's legs - danger averted.

Adam controls Ure momentarily but Ure frees himself.

Ure thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Ure slips nicely into half guard.
Adam is looking for a sweep. Ure is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Ure is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Adam defends it well.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ure pushes down on Adam's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Adam is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Ure wants to work for an arm triangle but Adam is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Ure is looking for a kimura but Adam is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ure to get the leverage.

Ure is working for a submission of some sort.

Ure looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Ure is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Adam is just riding it out for now. Ure eventually gives up the hold.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

We've been informed that Adam has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Adam has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ure is working away from the top position though.

Adam moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Ure drops back, looking for a kneebar! Adam looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Adam looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Adam!

Adam tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Adam has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Adam wants to control but Ure is keeping him busy.
Ure avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Adam.
Ure prevents Adam from improving position.

Adam swings around for an armbar but Ure sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Adam's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ure is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Adam in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Adam avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Adam with a flurry of punches that miss.
Ure could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

A close second round but Freddie Adam will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Adam throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Ure feinted with a counter takedown.
Adam fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
As Adam looks to move away, Ure throws a big counter combo but Adam just gets out of the way.
Ure slips a jab from Adam.
Ure swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Adam swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
A little feinted left hand from Ure on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Adam tries for a takedown but Ure sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Ure shoots in for a double leg but Adam sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Adam shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Ure manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Adam takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Adam throws a strike but Ure rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Adam working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ure doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ure manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Ure is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Adam is just riding it out for now. Ure eventually gives up the hold.
Adam landing rabbit punches to the side of Ure's head. Not doing much damage but still scoring a few points.
Adam moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Ure is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Adam is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Adam has escaped and now he's on top!

Freddie Adam comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Adam has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
