PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matt Davas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anderson Ken (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Matt Davas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Anderson Ken!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ken misses with a wild combination.
Ken tries to clinch there but Davas circles away.
Davas looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Ken tries to keep at a distance but Davas has taken the fight into the clinch.

Ken's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Ken throws a hook but Davas avoids it easily.

Ken looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Davas trying to control here.
Ken wants to stand up but Davas has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Ken seems to be looking for submissions.

Davas actively working from the bottom here.
Davas wants to improve his position but Ken is controlling well.
Ken seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Davas does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Davas tries to roll over but Ken keeps him under control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Davas utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Ken throwing strikes but missing.
Ken wants to control from the top but Davas keeps moving.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Ken cracks Davas with a solid left hand.
Ken throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Davas works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Ken passes Davas's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Davas is looking to escape.

Davas is trying is best to control the position here.
Davas trying to hold on to Ken's head to control him but Ken postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Ken dives in and scores a takedown into Davas's guard.

Ken slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Davas is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ken is controlling him.

Ken wants to control from the top but Davas keeps moving.
Ken must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Davas wants to sweep here but Ken controlling him for the moment.

Davas seems keen to control Ken's posture.

Anderson Ken dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Ken changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Davas tries to avoid it but Ken manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Davas to the ground. Davas escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Ken falls off balance throwing a combination
and Davas counters with a stiff right hand.
Ken dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Davas shoots in looking for a takedown. Ken tries to sprawl out of it but Davas keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ken manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Davas tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

and Ken counters by moving into the clinch.
Ken is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ken scores with a shot to the side of Davas's head.

Ken changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Davas fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Matt Davas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anderson Ken.
Ken looks to land a right hand but Davas moved out of range.

Ken moves in looking to clinch but Davas pushes him off.
Ken misses with a jab, cross combination.

and Davas counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Davas.
Ken is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Davas gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Ken is breathing heavily.
Davas just leaning against Ken, taking a breather.

Ken has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Davas regains guard immediately.
Davas bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ken's guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Ken shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Davas as he jumps to the side.
Davas stuffs the takedown attempt from Ken. Ken gets slowly back to his feet.

Davas gets a double leg takedown into Ken's guard.

Davas trying to control but Ken is working from the bottom.
Ken controls Davas momentarily but Davas frees himself.
Davas keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Ken's head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Ken uses the cage to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Anderson Ken will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Ken closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ken lands in his opponent's guard.
Davas looking for a sweep. Not yet Davas, not yet.

Ken postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Davas is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ken, into his guard.

Davas is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Davas wants to control from the top but Ken keeps moving.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Davas wants to pass the guard but Ken is keeping the position.
Ken being controlled here, momentarily.
Davas wants to control from the top but Ken keeps moving.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Davas engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Ken's jab looks to have found its range, popping Davas under the eye.

The fight stays on the outside here - Davas looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Davas drives through with a takedown into guard.
Davas looking to sit in guard and control but Ken gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Davas is on top in guard.

Ken looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Davas puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Ken really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Davas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ken wants to improve his position but Davas is controlling well.

The fighters are battling for position here. Ken manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Matt Davas.
I think Ken has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
