The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ferdinand fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Townsend looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Ferdinand lands a nice looking body shot.
Ferdinand throws a combination. Townsend tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

It looks like Elijah Townsend has been cut.

Townsend fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Ferdinand, pushing him back against the cage.

Ferdinand gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Ferdinand is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Townsend sees it coming and defends easily.

Ferdinand is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Townsend really is a fat lump.
Townsend is trying to get back to full guard.

Ferdinand is looking for a kimura but Townsend is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ferdinand to get the leverage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Townsend keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Ferdinand throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Townsend is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Ferdinand's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Ferdinand's back!
