PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Don Gotti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Khal Stark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stark is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: War Is Coming by Six Feet Under. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Khal Stark enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Don Gotti!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Khal Stark!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Matti Vanhoillinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed right hand from Gotti misses the target.
Gotti slips a straight right by Stark.
Stark misses with a right hand

and Gotti counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Stark wants to get back to his feet.
Gotti wants to pass the guard but Stark is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stark tries to get to full guard but Gotti has control of the leg.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gotti stops Stark from getting back to his feet.
Gotti works his way into full mount!
Stark is squirming around, avoiding Gotti's attempts to control the action.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stark can't escape the position.
Gotti trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Gotti tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Stark squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Gotti trying to control but Stark is having none of it.
Gotti controlling the position easily from mount.
Stark is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Stark is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Gotti is staying active.
We've been hearing that Gotti has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Gotti is working for a guillotine from mount but Stark frees his head quite easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gotti takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Gotti is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Stark to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Stark shrugs it off.
Gotti tries to control but Stark wriggling away.
Stark working to try and regain half guard.
Gotti trying to control but Stark is having none of it.
Stark is looking to get to half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Stark is still trying to improve position.
Gotti wants to control the pace but Stark is squirming around nicely.

Gotti has control of Stark's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Stark regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Gotti trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Gotti won't let Stark get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Stark tries to hold on but Gotti pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Don Gotti dominated that round.
That's time! Gotti's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Stark uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Gotti.
Stark looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Stark slips a jab from Gotti.
Stark lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Stark misses the jab.
Stark lands a head shot.
Stark throws a shot from downtown. Gotti moves away and avoids it.
Stark lunges at Gotti with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Gotti's hand.
Stark jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Stark feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Gotti's calf.
Gotti moves away from the strike by Stark.
Stark throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Stark moves out of range of the strikes.
Gotti throws a big shot that misses.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Stark misses with a wild body shot.
Stark looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
A swing and a miss from Gotti.
Khal Stark seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stark throws a head kick that misses.
Gotti drops down looking for a counter takedown but Stark sprawls and moves away.
Stark is looking to land body kicks.

Stark gets caught napping as Gotti dives in and scores a takedown. Stark manages to retain guard.
Gotti is in close to Stark's body, working some short punches and elbows.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gotti stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stark swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gotti's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Gotti sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Stark's guard.
Gotti looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Stark is not content to let Gotti control the position.
Gotti trying to pass the guard but Stark defending well.
Stark is refusing to be controlled, as Gotti sits in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Stark tries to kick Gotti off but Gotti keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Stark wants to get back to full guard.

Gotti seems to be looking for submissions.
Gotti is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Stark can do to turn this around?
Stark is looking to improve his position.
Gotti seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Gotti tries to pass to full mount but Stark defends it.
Stark wants to control but Gotti is keeping busy and won't allow it.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Gotti wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stark keeps working.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Stark throws a nice looking combination but Gotti bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Gotti feinted with a counter takedown.
Stark scores with a jab to the jaw.
Gotti shoots for a takedown but Stark saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Gotti scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Gotti fails with a takedown attempt.

Gotti drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Stark manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Stark's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Gotti tries to score a power double leg takedown but Stark sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gotti somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Don Gotti. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gotti shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Stark sprawls well. Stark wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gotti gets slowly back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Stark throws a chopping leg kick but Gotti manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

Gotti drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Stark wants to get back to his feet but Gotti passes into half guard.

Stark wants to get back to his feet.
Gotti wants to pass to mount but Stark is defending the position.

Gotti seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Khal Stark showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Gotti's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Gotti throws a hook but Stark avoids it easily.
Gotti displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Stark throws out the jab.
Gotti shoots in for a takedown but Stark shows good takedown defense.
Stark defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gotti.
Stark misses with a straight right.
Stark fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Gotti checks it well.

Gotti closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Stark quickly recovers to half guard.
Gotti seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Stark does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Stark is trying to stand up here but Gotti is controlling him well.
Gotti prevents Stark from improving his position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gotti tries to pass to full mount but Stark defends it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Still in half guard, Gotti seems content to control.
Stark wants to control but Gotti is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Don Gotti overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Gotti looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Gotti is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Gotti is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Stark doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gotti.
Gotti is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Gotti darts in looking for a takedown but Stark gets double underhooks and turns Gotti into the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Don Gotti. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A looping hook to the body misses from Stark. Gotti does a little dance to reset his feet.
Gotti tries to counter with a takedown but Stark is quick to defend against it.
Gotti shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Stark as he jumps to the side.
Stark swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Gotti throws a jab but it's blocked by Stark.
Gotti looks to land a right hand but Stark moved out of range.
Stark leaves Gotti with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Stark now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Khal Stark is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gotti moves out of range as Stark strikes.
Stark throws a head kick that misses.
Gotti with a poor takedown
and Stark counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stark throws a series of punches but Gotti avoids them all with ease.
Gotti connects with a crisp jab.
Gotti avoids the head kick by Stark.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gotti is defended easily by Stark.
Stark connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Gotti shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Gotti was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Stark is looking to reverse the position.
Stark is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Gotti is controlling him well.
Stark seems a little lost for a moment, as Gotti dominates the positioning.
Gotti works to advance to full mount. Stark defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gotti trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Gotti sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Stark is desperately trying to improve his position but Gotti has a good base and remains in mount.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Stark really wants to buck Gotti off and get back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Stark is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Khal Stark.
I think Stark has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
