PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jourdan Peppers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Howland Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jourdan Peppers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Howland Reed!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Cecil Peabody and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peppers lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Reed tries to land a front kick but Peppers steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Peppers checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.

Reed has Peppers up against the cage in a clinch.

Reed pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Reed clinches up with Peppers and pushes him back against the cage.
Reed is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Peppers is defending well.
Reed throws an elbow but it's blocked.

Reed has hold of one of Peppers's legs. Peppers is fighting the takedown attempt but Reed gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Peppers is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Reed passes Peppers's left leg - he's now in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Peppers is looking to escape.
Reed passes to full mount!
Reed with a couple of short strikes.
Reed wants to control the pace but Peppers is squirming around nicely.
Reed punishing his opponent with strikes.
Reed looking to control and managing it successfully.
Peppers takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Reed tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Peppers knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Reed on the ground.

Reed trying to control but Peppers is having none of it.
Peppers is trying to stand up.
Reed lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Reed controlling from the full mount.
Reed trying to control but Peppers is having none of it.
Reed has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
A nice elbow there by Reed.


It looks like Jourdan Peppers has been cut.

Peppers wants to try and get back to his feet.
Reed landing punches.
Peppers wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Reed wants to take Peppers's back but he can't do it this time.
Reed lands a big shot there that rocks Peppers but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Peppers really wants to buck Reed off and get back to his feet.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Reed is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Peppers can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Peppers is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Reed controlling from mount.
Reed cracks Peppers with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Reed landing punches.
Reed has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Peppers's face.

Reed get's back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Peppers gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Reed is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Peppers being controlled here, momentarily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Howland Reed dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jourdan Peppers's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Reed has a takedown stuffed.
Reed has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Reed scores with a takedown into Peppers's guard.
Peppers is wriggling around but Reed manages to pass to half guard.

Peppers pushes Reed off and gets back to his feet.
Reed looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Peppers scores with a one two! Reed had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Peppers cracks Reed with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Peppers throws a nice looking combination but Reed bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Nice uppercut there from Peppers.
Peppers throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Reed.
Reed wants to counter with a clinch but Peppers pushes him away.
Reed avoids a punch combination nicely.
Peppers misses with a double jab.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Reed clinches up with Peppers and pushes him back against the cage.
Reed tries for a takedown. No joy.
Peppers prevents the takedown attempt.
Jourdan Peppers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Howland Reed.

Reed is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Peppers to keep the fight standing.

Reed is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Peppers.

Peppers lands with a good body shot.

Reed gets a takedown into half guard.
Peppers scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Reed manages to mount him!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Reed tries to control but Peppers wriggling away.
Reed lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Peppers in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

Reed wants to finish this one by submission but Peppers is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Reed.
Reed lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Reed trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Peppers is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Reed lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Reed controlling the pace for now.

Reed has control of Peppers's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Peppers regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Peppers is trying to escape the mount but Reed keeps good control and instead manages to take Peppers's back.

Reed trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Peppers doesn't escape.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jourdan Peppers will probably get the nod.

Reed is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Peppers wants to get back to his feet but Reed is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Reed landing with the ground and pound.
Reed advances to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reed landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Peppers kicks Reed off and gets back to his feet.
Jourdan Peppers is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Peppers stands and steps away. Reed gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Peppers pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Reed back to the cage. Peppers follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Reed takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Reed decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Peppers pushes Reed off but Reed dives into side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Reed is trying to get an arm triangle but Peppers is defending well.

Reed decides to stand back up. Reed steps back and let's Peppers get back to his feet.
Peppers's corner calls for a 1-2. Peppers obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Jourdan Peppers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Reed.

Reed gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Reed can't get the takedown.

Reed drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Peppers breaks from the clinch.
Peppers keeps the fight on the outside.
Peppers works over Reed's head and body with a nice combination.
Peppers paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Peppers fails to land with a series of punches.
Peppers displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Reed.
Jourdan Peppers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Howland Reed.

Peppers throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Jourdan Peppers is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Peppers gets underhooks to prevent Reed's takedown attempt.
Peppers wants to break free but Reed has control.
Reed's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Reed drags the fight down to the ground.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jourdan Peppers showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Peppers has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
