PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steven Hurst (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Jay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Steven Hurst!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, John Jay!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Colin Fotheringham and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hurst gets a double leg takedown into Jay's guard.
Jay is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Hurst dives into side control.
Hurst really is a fat lump.

You can see the frustration on Jay's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Hurst postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Jay is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Hurst tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hurst has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Jay tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hurst paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Jay passes Hurst's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Steven Hurst overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Jay throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Hurst to regain full guard.

Hurst looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jay is one step ahead there.

Jay decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Jay wants to get back to full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jay is looking to get back to full guard here but Hurst has managed to pass to side control instead.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Jay clinches.
Hurst misses with an elbow over the top.

Jay pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Hurst darts in looking for a takedown but Jay gets double underhooks and turns Hurst into the cage.
Hurst throws a push kick but Jay slaps the foot to one side.
Hurst shoots for a double leg takedown but Jay sprawls well. He's pushed Hurst's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Hurst tries to clinch up.

Jay blocks the body kick.

Hurst gets tackled into the cage by Jay. Jay maintains the clinch.
Hurst wants a takedown but no success here.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steven Hurst. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hurst jumps guard but Jay stands there with Hurst around his waist. Hurst gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Hurst wants a takedown but no success here.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Jay gets underhooks to prevent Hurst's takedown attempt.
Hurst jumps guard but Jay stands there with Hurst around his waist. Hurst gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Jay goes for a takedown in the clinch but Hurst prevents it.
Hurst is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jay can do to turn this around?

Jay seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Jay is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Still in half guard, Jay seems content to control.

Jay is working for a kimura here but Hurst manages to reverse the position and he's now in Jay's guard.
Hurst might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Hurst seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Jay for as long as he can get away with.
Hurst would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Jay is looking to stand up but Hurst isn't so interested in that idea.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Hurst lands with a punch from half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Hurst lands a nice short elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hurst is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Jay is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Hurst jumps into side control!

Jay manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
John Jay has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Steven Hurst is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Jay is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hurst defends it well.

John Jay comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
