PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Adam Emerson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Negan Finnigan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Adam Emerson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Negan Finnigan!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Daniel Blasius and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Finnigan throws a right hand that misses

so Emerson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Emerson postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Emerson is in close to Finnigan's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Emerson missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Emerson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Finnigan seems keen to control Emerson's posture.

Emerson drops back looking for a leg! Finnigan is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Finnigan manages to kick Emerson off! Emerson jumps back into Finnigan's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Finnigan seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Let's hope that Finnigan has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Finnigan is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Emerson.
Emerson displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Finnigan throws out the jab.

Finnigan looks to land a combination. Emerson sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
A decent looking cross lands there for Finnigan.
Finnigan's corner calls for a 1-2. Finnigan obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Emerson ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Emerson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Finnigan is looking for the big counter here.
Emerson takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

and Finnigan counters with a lovely straight right hand!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Emerson is looking to clinch but Finnigan is avoiding it.
Finnigan pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Finnigan looks to throw the jab but Emerson is out of range.
Emerson slips a jab from Finnigan.
Emerson dodges the punch combination from Finnigan.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Finnigan throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Emerson darts in and clinches Finnigan up against the cage.
Emerson jumps guard but Finnigan turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Emerson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Negan Finnigan dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


The fighters circling - Finnigan throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Finnigan fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Finnigan throws a big shot that misses.
Negan Finnigan seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Finnigan with a nice cross.
Emerson is looking to clinch but Finnigan is avoiding it.
Finnigan throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
The fight stays on the outside here - Emerson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Finnigan throws a combination. Emerson tries to block but a couple of punches get through.


Emerson is rocked!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Finnigan lands with a big left! Emerson is wobbled badly! Finnigan comes in with a flurry of punches and drops Emerson to the floor. The ref jumps in to save him from unneccessary punishment.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:09 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Negan Finnigan!
