PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between John Haigh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Umbra Uxxarest (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Haigh might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Prayer of the Refugee by Rise Against . Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 27 - 1, fighting out of New York, John Haigh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 23 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Umbra Uxxarest!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Elvis Blanc and Robert Douchet.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Haigh blocks a jab.
Haigh shoots in for a takedown but Uxxarest shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Haigh throws a combination that misses
and Uxxarest counters with a nice low kick that buckles Haigh's knee momentarily.
Haigh shoots in looking for a takedown but Uxxarest manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Haigh's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Uxxarest avoids the head kick by Haigh.
No joy there for Haigh, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Uxxarest is looking to score with low kicks.
Haigh scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
The crowd cheers as Uxxarest lands an impressive looking overhand right. Haigh doesn't seem phased though.
Haigh misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Uxxarest counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Haigh gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Uxxarest.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Uxxarest throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Haigh is not content to let Uxxarest control the position.

Uxxarest is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Haigh sees it coming and defends easily.
Haigh is refusing to be controlled, as Uxxarest sits in half guard.
Haigh is trying to get back to full guard.
Uxxarest is nestled in close to Haigh, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Uxxarest is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Haigh is just riding it out for now. Uxxarest eventually gives up the hold.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Haigh moves into full guard.
Uxxarest wants to pass the guard but Haigh is keeping the position.
Haigh bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Uxxarest's guard.

Uxxarest is trying to keep Haigh in close.

Haigh is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Haigh in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Haigh is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Haigh throws a right hand that Uxxarest ducks under and follows up with a left that Uxxarest also avoids with ease.

Haigh pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Uxxarest fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Haigh checks it well.
Uxxarest throws a hook but Haigh blocks it.
Horrible takedown attempt by Haigh or perhaps it was just good defense by Uxxarest, which made it look bad.

Uxxarest misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Umbra Uxxarest dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Haigh shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Uxxarest but Uxxarest pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Umbra Uxxarest seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Haigh half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Haigh looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

It seemed like Uxxarest was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Uxxarest has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Uxxarest takes a swing at Haigh's ribcage but misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Uxxarest working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Haigh doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Haigh manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Uxxarest is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Uxxarest wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A solid body kick from Haigh.
Haigh checks the leg kick.
Uxxarest tries to work over Haigh's front leg with a kick but Haigh checks it.

Haigh connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Uxxarest's hands.

Uxxarest drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Haigh defends it well.

Haigh takes one to the chin there.
Uxxarest blocks a head kick by Haigh.
Haigh thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Uxxarest if he has to take too many more of those.
Uxxarest throws a hook to the side of Haigh's head but Haigh sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

and Haigh takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Uxxarest is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Haigh.
Haigh shoots in looking for a takedown. Uxxarest tries to sprawl out of it but Haigh keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Uxxarest manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Haigh gets caught napping as Uxxarest dives in and scores a takedown. Haigh manages to retain guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Haigh not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Uxxarest throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Haigh misses the body punch
and Uxxarest counters with a low kick, right behind Haigh 's knee.
A decent looking cross lands there for Uxxarest.

Haigh is rocked!
BAM! Uxxarest delivers a spinning backfist that drops Haigh like a ragdoll! This is all oooooveeeer! He was out before he hit the ground!
