Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Travadera Fernandes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Andy Day!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Leandro Rodrigues and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Day will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Day shoots in for a double leg but Fernandes sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Fernandes showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Day.
Fernandes shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Day jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Day fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Fernandes, pushing him back against the cage.
Fernandes tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Day just stands there and leans against the cage.
Fernandes goes for a takedown in the clinch but Day prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Travadera Fernandes. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Day wants to break the clinch but can't.

A nice right hand lands inside from Day.

Fernandes successfully pulls guard.
Fernandes thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Day trying to control but Fernandes is working from the bottom.

Fernandes is looking for a triangle but Day pushes his legs off easily.
Day wants to pass the guard but Fernandes is keeping the position.

Fernandes escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Day gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Day wants to control from the top but Fernandes keeps moving.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Day avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Fernandes is breathing heavily.
Day trying to control the position from guard on top but Fernandes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Fernandes looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Day is stalling in the full guard.

Fernandes is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Day is looking to work some ground and pound but Fernandes has wrist control.
Day must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Day content to stall in guard here.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Day wants to get up but he can't break Fernandes's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Fernandes could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Day is looking to work some ground and pound but Fernandes has wrist control.
Day trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Day decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Fernandes, up you get!

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Day shoots for a takedown but Fernandes saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Day throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Fernandes's waist but Fernandes gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Day off to one side.
Day moves in looking to clinch but Fernandes pushes him off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Andy Day will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Day thows a body shot but no joy.
Andy Day seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Day with a poor takedown

so Fernandes counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Day controls Fernandes momentarily but Fernandes frees himself.
Day tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Fernandes thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Fernandes trying to control the position from guard on top but Day is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Day tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Fernandes wants to control from the top but Day keeps moving.
Day will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Day scores with a jab to the body.
Day lands with an overhand left.

Day clinches up with Fernandes and pushes him back against the cage.

Day is leaning against Fernandes and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Day wants to break the clinch but can't.

Fernandes tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Day smiles and moves away.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Day tries to close the distance and clinch but Fernandes swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

A combination from Day does no damage.
Day moves in looking to clinch but Fernandes pushes him off.
Day shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Fernandes as he jumps to the side.
No luck for Day with that takedown attempt.
Travadera Fernandes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andy Day.
Day throws a big shot that misses.
Travadera Fernandes is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Fernandes swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
enabling Day to counter with a crisp jab.
Day looks to land a combination but Fernandes avoids it well.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Day can do anything to dispel that myth.

Day in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Day is in all sorts of trouble here.
Day is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Andy Day showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Fernandes tries to pull guard but Day holds him up against the cage and eventually Fernandes drops back down to his feet.
Fernandes struggles to land a body shot inside as Day controls his hands.
Fernandes keeps control of Day as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Fernandes tries for a takedown but Day manages to get underhooks.
Day wants to break the clinch but can't.
Day wants to get back to striking at distance but Fernandes won't allow it.
Fernandes fails to pull guard.

Day wants to hold on but Fernandes pushes him away.
Day really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Fernandes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

You get the feeling that Day really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Fernandes has hold of Day's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Day manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Andy Day is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Day wants to control but Fernandes is having none of it.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Travadera Fernandes.
I think Day has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
