The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dempsey blocks the body kick.
Dempsey walks forward, straight into a front kick from Shechter.
Shechter misses with a wild body shot.
Shechter scores with a nice head shot.
Dempsey throws a series of punches but Shechter avoids them all with ease.
Shechter ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Dempsey moves away.

Shechter lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

It looks like Jack Dempsey has been cut.
Shechter swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Dempsey counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Nice uppercut lands for Shechter. That snapped Dempsey's head back.

Shechter lands a high kick to the side of Dempsey's head that stuns him and send him tumbling down to the canvas! Shechter dives into guard, looking to finish.

Shechter decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
You get the feeling that Shechter really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Shechter's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Dempsey takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Dempsey won't let Shechter get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
