Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Granville Hopkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Steve McCarnish!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Daniel Blasius and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McCarnish tries to keep at a distance but Hopkins has taken the fight into the clinch.
McCarnish looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
McCarnish jumps guard but Hopkins stands there with McCarnish around his waist. McCarnish gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
McCarnish tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Hopkins just stands there and leans against the cage.

Hopkins pulls guard successfully.
Hopkins really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Hopkins seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Hopkins trying to strike off his back.

Hopkins kicks McCarnish off and gets to his feet.
Nice sprawl there from Hopkins as McCarnish shoots in.
Granville Hopkins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve McCarnish.

McCarnish closes the distance and pushes Hopkins back into the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hopkins jumps into guard, dragging McCarnish to the mat.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hopkins is on top in guard.

Hopkins makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hopkins stands up from McCarnish's guard - Hopkins perhaps looking for a knockout.

Hopkins shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. McCarnish manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

McCarnish is working an open guard so Hopkins takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Hopkins scores with a takedown into McCarnish's guard.

Hopkins stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Hopkins moves into range and clinches up with McCarnish.

Hopkins pulls McCarnish into guard.
Hopkins is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
McCarnish must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hopkins is on top in guard.


Hopkins gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
This has been an exciting period of action!

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Hopkins manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Hopkins is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Hopkins holds on and takes a little breather.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hopkins is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst McCarnish is controlling him.

Hopkins seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

McCarnish being controlled here momentarily.
Hopkins tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Hopkins is pulling down on McCarnish's head to control his posture.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Hopkins closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. McCarnish did well to prevent Hopkins getting side control.
Hopkins slips a nice elbow through McCarnish's hands, connecting with McCarnish's forehead.
McCarnish wants to control but Hopkins passes into side.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Hopkins is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. McCarnish is trying to escape and Hopkins transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and McCarnish is forced to tap! Nice work there by Hopkins! Very nice indeed!
