Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Burns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gary Severn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jimmy Burns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Gary Severn!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Colin Fotheringham and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Severn swats away the attempt to clinch by Burns.

Burns gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Severn to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Severn got a little sloppy there for a moment and Burns has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Severn has managed to get both his arms back between Burns's legs - danger averted.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Burns manages to get back to half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Severn's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Severn lands a nice short elbow.
Burns could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Severn in particular looking to stall.

Burns wants to improve his position but Severn is controlling well.

Severn content to control rather than advance.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Burns shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Severn pinned against the cage. Severn gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Severn doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Burns counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Severn avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Severn fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Severn shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Burns's guard.

Burns not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Severn is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Severn is looking to work some ground and pound but Burns has wrist control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Severn gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Severn shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Burns napping and manages to drive through into side control!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Severn is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Burns will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Severn shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Severn showed some decent athleticism there.

Burns wants to get back to his feet.
Severn takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Severn seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Severn. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Burns is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Burns wants to get back to his feet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Severn closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Burns's guard.
Severn controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Let's hope that Severn has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Burns tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Severn not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Severn must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Burns is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Severn shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Burns is trying to maintain the position but Severn is very close to passing his half guard.

Gary Severn showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Burns changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Severn tries to avoid it but Burns manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Severn to the ground. Severn escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Severn closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Burns's guard.

Burns is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Burns is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Severn is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Burns is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Severn closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Severn decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
