PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Aquiles Romero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Billy Bush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Romero comes to the cage accompanied by Scotland The Brave. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Aquiles Romero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Billy Bush!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, David Schapiro and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Romero gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Bush to score an easy takedown into full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bush accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Romero is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Heart Cave (8 elites, 4 double-elites, 1 triple) that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Romero is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Bush won't allow Romero to get back to his feet.
Bush has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Romero keeping full guard, as Bush tries to pass.
Bush slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Bush tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Romero wants to control but Bush postures up.

Romero sneaks back into half guard.
Romero has his hands clasped together around Bush's back. He's all about the action.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Romero gets full guard.
Bush throws a big right hand that misses.
Bush preventing the sweep.
Bush won't allow Romero to get back to his feet.
Bush stopping the sweep attempt from Romero.
Romero is pulling down on Bush's head to control his posture.
Bush pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Romero is keeping the position for now.
Bush working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bush with a flurry of punches that miss.
Bush tries to free his leg and advance position but Romero is retaining full guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Romero looking for a sweep. Not yet Romero, not yet.
Bush stops Romero from standing up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Romero fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Bush manages to avoid it.
Bush tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Romero tries to sprawl but Bush drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Bush thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Romero's head.
Romero moves into full guard.
Bush passes Romero's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Romero wants to get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bush is nestled in close to Romero, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Bush is working for a kimura but Romero is defending it quite comfortably.

Romero slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Romero looking for a sweep. Not yet Romero, not yet.
Bush throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Bush postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Bush throwing strikes but missing.
Romero seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Bush postures up in Romero's guard and throws a big left but Romero blocks it.
Romero is pulling down on Bush's head to control his posture.
Romero working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Bush.
Bush lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Bush missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Romero wants to stand up but Bush is controlling him.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Bush has gone for a leg lock! Romero slips out almost immediately though and dives into Bush's guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Billy Bush dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Romero throws a head kick but Bush moves out of range.
Bush drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Romero defends it well.
Bush will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Some wild striking there from Bush.
It looked like Romero was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Bush.
A decent looking cross lands there for Bush.
Romero feints a jab promting Bush to slip. Romero then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Bush slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Romero lands with a slapping head kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Romero misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Bush moves away from the strike by Romero.
Romero cracks Bush with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Romero ducks under a wild hook from Bush.
Romero seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bush fails with a takedown attempt.
Romero throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Romero throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Bush.
Bush will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Bush looks for a takedown but Romero sprawls well.
A quick step to the side and Romero tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Aquiles Romero has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Billy Bush.
Bush avoids the head kick by Romero.
Bush is trying to counter with his kicks.

Bush shoots in and bounces Romero off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Bush is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Bush stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Romero swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Romero is pulling down on Bush's head. It's preventing any offense from Bush, at least for the moment.

Romero has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Bush off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Romero blocks a leg kick.
And Romero counters with a quick kick to the body but Bush blocks it.
Romero swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Aquiles Romero is winning the standup battle so far.
Romero tests Bush's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A good leg kick by Romero.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Romero looks to land a left hand but Bush moved out of range nicely.
Romero throws a wild body kick that Bush sees coming a mile off.
Bush attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Romero misses with a double jab.
Bush blocks a jab.
Crunch! Romero slams his shin into Bush's torso.
Aquiles Romero is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Romero throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Bush counters with a shoot takedown. Romero fights it but they end up in guard.
Romero wants to sweep here but Bush controlling him for the moment.
Bush cracks Romero with a solid left hand.
Romero wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Bush is now in half guard.

Bush seems to be looking for submissions.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bush working the head and body with strikes.

Bush maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Romero could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Bush has cracked it and Romero is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Bush!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:33 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Billy Bush!
During a confident post fight interview, Billy Bush thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
Aquiles Romero spoke after the fight, saying 'expect me to move down to 145 weight class'.
