PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Raphael Hawkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Treant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Robert Treant was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Raphael Hawkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Robert Treant!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Donald Grub and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Treant gets a takedown into half guard.
Hawkins wants to control but Treant is keeping busy.
Treant is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Hawkins keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Treant is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hawkins doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Treant.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hawkins throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Treant stands and throws Hawkins's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Treant slows the pace down.
You can see the frustration on Hawkins's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Treant not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Treant's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Treant leaves Hawkins with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Treant shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Still in half guard, Treant seems content to control.
Treant thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Treant looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Treant looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robert Treant dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Treant shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hawkins napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Treant controlling the position.
Hawkins regains half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Treant slows the pace down in half guard.
Treant wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hawkins keeps working.

Hawkins wants to get back to full guard but Treant has passed into side control.
Treant lands a few punches from side control.

Treant goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Hawkins rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Treant's guard! Nice work there by Hawkins!
Hawkins is looking to stand up but Treant won't let him.
Treant has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Treant lands a couple of shots from the bottom.
Treant avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hawkins would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Treant wants to improve his position but instead Hawkins has moved into half guard.

Hawkins seems to be looking for submissions.

Treant is pulling down on Hawkins's head to control his posture.
Hawkins won't allow Treant to get back to his feet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hawkins shoots and misses
and Treant counters with a one-two to the body.

Treant looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.


Hawkins is rocked!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Treant looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Oh Hawkins is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Treant is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hawkins defends it well.
Hawkins seems to have got his legs back now.
Hawkins wants to get back to full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Treant slows the pace down in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robert Treant showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Hawkins makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Hawkins looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Treant is fending him off so far but Hawkins persists. Nope, Treant circles away and we're back to standing.

Treant looks to land a body kick but Hawkins moved away.

Treant shoots in and gets a takedown into Hawkins's guard.

Hawkins has his feet on Treant's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Treant drops Hawkins with a naaaaasty hook - Hawkins is in real trouble here! Treant dives in to side control and pounds out his opponent for a TKO victory! The crowd goes nuts!
