Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Julius Schwartz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mike Gero!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Luis Engracia and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gero is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Schwartz's half guard.
Schwartz is trying to stand up here but Gero is controlling him well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gero decides to stand and escape the position.
Gero is looking to slow Schwartz down with leg kicks.

Gero gets a takedown into half guard.
Gero is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Schwartz is trying to get back to full guard.
Gero tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Schwartz.
Gero is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Gero wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Schwartz uses the opportunity to regain full guard.

Gero gets to his feet. Schwartz looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Gero thows a body kick. Schwartz tries to catch it but that hurt him.

Gero clinches up against the cage.

Gero manages to break the clinch.
Gero lands a two punch combo.
Mike Gero seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gero has taken the fight to the clinch.

Gero has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Schwartz is trying to keep an underhook but Gero manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Schwartz manages to escape and get back to his feet!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gero throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Schwartz tries to counter with a takedown but Gero is quick to defend against it.

Gero is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Schwartz is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Schwartz gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Gero looks winded!
Gero looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Gero throws a quick inside leg kick.
Schwartz tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Gero paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Gero rushes Schwartz and presses him up against the cage.

Gero's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Gero decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Schwartz kicks Gero off and gets back to his feet.

Gero gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Schwartz regains guard.

Schwartz wriggles free and stands up.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Schwartz shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gero but Gero pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Gero tries to clinch but Schwartz is having none of it.

Gero gets the takedown into side control.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Gero tries to stand but Schwartz is controlling his head.
Schwartz regains half guard.
Schwartz is looking to improve his position.
Gero wants to stand but Schwartz has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Gero has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Schwartz works to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Mike Gero will probably get the nod.

Gero shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Schwartz is trying to defend but Gero finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Gero tries to stand but can't do so whilst Schwartz controls his leg.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gero decides to return to a standing position.
Gero connects with a high kick.
Mike Gero seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Gero dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Schwartz. That did some damage!

Gero is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Schwartz gets caught flat footed, as Gero shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Gero shoots in and bounces Schwartz off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Schwartz wriggles free and stands up.
Gero tries to close the distance and clinch but Schwartz swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Julius Schwartz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Gero swats away the attempt to clinch by Schwartz.

Gero shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Schwartz manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Schwartz manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Gero wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Gero lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Schwartz trying to control the position but instead, Gero has worked for underhooks and has pushed Schwartz into the cage.
Gero pushes Schwartz back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.

Gero escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Gero drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Schwartz throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Schwartz has Gero pressed against the cage, preventing Gero from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Schwartz tries to stall but Gero uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Gero tries to clinch up but Schwartz circles away and keeps his distance.

Schwartz is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Gero's half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

That was a close second round but I would say that Julius Schwartz will probably get the nod.

Schwartz stands and steps away. Gero gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Gero is trying to force a seperation but Schwartz has the dominant position.
A frustrated look appears on Gero's face as he tries to break the clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Schwartz manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Gero keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
