Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gary Severn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Willem Van Der Weegh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gary Severn has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Severn shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Van Der Weegh pinned against the cage. Van Der Weegh gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Severn sets himself, and Van Der Weegh steps forward looking for the clinch! Severn avoids it this time.

Severn shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Severn keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Van Der Weegh is looking to control Severn's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Van Der Weegh avoid being mounted?
Van Der Weegh is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Van Der Weegh actively working from the bottom here.
Severn working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Severn prevents Van Der Weegh from improving his position.
Severn is thwarting Van Der Weegh's attempts to control the position.
Van Der Weegh is trying to stand up here but Severn is controlling him well.
Severn content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Severn's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Severn stands up out of the half guard.
Van Der Weegh closes the distance but Severn moves to the side
and Severn counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Van Der Weegh has eaten all the pies!
Van Der Weegh fails with a takedown attempt.
Severn feinted with a counter takedown.

Van Der Weegh scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Van Der Weegh stops Severn from getting back to his feet.
Severn trying to hold on to Van Der Weegh's head to control him but Van Der Weegh postures up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Van Der Weegh uses his free foot to push down on Severn's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Severn.
Van Der Weegh trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Van Der Weegh cracks Severn with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Severn sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Severn is pressing down on Van Der Weegh's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Severn manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Severn pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Van Der Weegh has his takedown stuffed

and Severn counters by moving into the clinch.

Severn is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Van Der Weegh prevents Severn from getting back to his feet.

Severn wants to sweep here but Van Der Weegh controlling him for the moment.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Severn wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Van Der Weegh has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Severn to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Van Der Weegh is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Severn pulls down on the head and he's put Van Der Weegh to sleep! This one is all over!
