PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andrew West (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ralph Haber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). West comes into the arena with Outlawz- Real Talk blaring out of the sound system. Haber has chosen You Don't Know as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Andrew West!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ralph Haber!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Franklyn Lucas and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Haber scores with a spinning back kick!
West is breathing heavily.

Haber gets a takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Haber in particular looking to stall.
Haber is pressing down on West's thigh, looking to free his foot. West is holding on for now.
Haber controlling the pace.
Haber passes to side control.
Haber controlling the position from side mount.
Haber creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Haber just content to control the position.
You can see the frustration on West's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Despite being in the dominant position, Ralph Haber just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

West stuffs the takedown attempt from Haber. Haber gets slowly back to his feet.
Haber keeps West at a distance using the push kick.
West circles away from the clinch attempt.
Haber tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but West paws at him with a jab and circles away.
West avoids the head kick by Haber.
Haber moves into range and lands a nice body kick.

West scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
This has been an exciting period of action!
West throwing strikes but Haber manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Haber wants to control but West is keeping him busy.
West gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

West is trying to get back to full guard.
West trying to hold on to Haber's head to control him but Haber postures up.
Haber wants to take a breather but West is having none of it.
West is trying to control but can't.
West flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

West is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Haber pulls his head out easily.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Haber tries for a takedown but West circles away easily

and West counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

West thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Haber's head.
West uses his free foot to push down on Haber's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Haber.
West fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Haber is in a horrible position here. West smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Haber tries to hold on but West pushes him away.
West lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's time! West's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

and West moves into the clinch.
West is trying to drag Haber to the mat but Haber just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
West drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
West takes a knee right on the jaw!
West wants a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andrew West. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Haber has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. West avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Haber lands an elbow that stopped West in his tracks for a moment.

West gets control of Haber's arms and successfully pulls guard. West will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Haber slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Haber would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
West is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
West wants to sweep here but Haber controlling him for the moment.

West wriggles free and stands up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
West changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Haber tries to avoid it but West manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Haber to the ground. Haber escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A slapping body kick lands there for Haber.
Haber shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
West looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

West has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Haber throws a chopping leg kick but West manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Haber avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

West tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Haber swings away with a leg kick that misses.

Haber changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. West tries to avoid it but Haber manages to keep hold of a leg and drag West to the ground. West escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Haber bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in West's guard.
West is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Haber is controlling him.

Haber gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Haber.
West shoots in but no luck this time.
Haber tries to land a front kick but West steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Haber moves in looking to clinch but West pushes him off.

Ralph Haber seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and West counters with a takedown into side control.

West looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
West has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

West tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
West wants to control but Haber is keeping him busy.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

West tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Haber is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on West's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
West is keen to just control but Haber is a slippery customer.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Haber tries to close the distance and clinch up but West swats him away and circles back towards the center.
West pulls out of a head kick attempt.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
West shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Haber but Haber pushes him off and we're back to square one.

West shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Haber as he avoids it easily.

and West decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Haber's guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
West sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

Andrew West overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Haber in particular looking to stall.
Haber has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
West is looking to improve his position but Haber isn't that keen on the idea.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Andrew West.
I think West has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
