PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Luke Barnatt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Danny Green (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Luke Barnatt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Danny Green!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Elvis Blanc and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barnatt bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Green's head backwards.
Barnatt works Green's body with a nice hook.
Barnatt connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Green's hands.
Barnatt swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Green counters by clinching up.
Barnatt misses with the head strike.

Green breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Barnatt displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Green.
Green misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Green throws a leg kick but Barnatt sees it coming and moves out of range.
As Green backs away, Barnatt returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Barnatt stuffs the takedown.
Barnatt scores with a jab. Green acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Green slips a jab and a cross from Barnatt.
Green is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Barnatt gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Green to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Green is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Green pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Barnatt is keeping the position for now.
Green landing some decent shots from guard.
Barnatt can't keep his opponent in guard - Green advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Green is taking a breather. Barnatt says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Green is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Green thows a huge punch but Barnatt dodges it nicely.
Well, if Green is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Barnatt is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Green not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Green winds up and cracks Barnatt with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Green controlling the action here.

Green decides to stand and escape the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Green pushes Barnatt up against the cage in a clinch.
Green tries to pull guard but Barnatt won't allow it.
Luke Barnatt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Danny Green.
Green has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Barnatt avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Green has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Barnatt after a bit of a struggle.
Barnatt is trying to break free.

Green breaks the clinch.
Green throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Barnatt is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Green.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Green throws a body shot but no joy.
Green misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Danny Green dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


No luck for Green with that takedown attempt.

Barnatt tries to keep at a distance but Green has taken the fight into the clinch.

Green drags the fight down to the ground.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Green is on top in guard.

Barnatt is trying to control the position but Green postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Green engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Green is pushing down on Barnatt's leg trying to pass to half guard. Barnatt is fighting to maintain full guard but Green has managed to sneak the leg through.

Green controlling the action here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Danny Green has got the better of the ground game so far.
Barnatt taking some punishment here, with Green in his half guard.
Green is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Barnatt!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Green controlling the position easily from mount.
Barnatt takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Green is standing up, even though he is in mount.

Green clinches up with Barnatt and pushes him back against the cage.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Green breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Green throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Barnatt was covering up waiting for the punch and Green finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Green postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Green showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Barnatt can't keep his opponent in guard - Green advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Green works his way into side control.
Green is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Danny Green showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Green clinches up with Barnatt and pushes him back against the cage.

Green successfully pulls guard.
Green looking for a sweep. Not yet Green, not yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Green is on top in guard.

Green advances position into side control!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Green controlling the position.
Green has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Green decides to stand back up. Green steps back and let's Barnatt get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Barnatt will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Green has managed to clinch.
Barnatt wants to stall.

Green's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Barnatt tries to keep at a distance but Green has taken the fight into the clinch.

Green breaks the clinch.
Barnatt misses with a leg kick.
Barnatt misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Green.
Luke Barnatt has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fighters circling - Barnatt throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Barnatt throws an off balance right hand

and Green counters with a crisp one two that drops Barnatt! Green thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Barnatt to his feet! Barnatt is in big trouble!


Barnatt is rocked!

Green moves into the clinch.
Oh Barnatt is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Barnatt gets underhooks to prevent Green's takedown attempt.
Barnatt seems to have got his legs back now.

Green manages to break the clinch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Green shoots in but no luck this time.
A combination from Green does no damage.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Green.
Luke Barnatt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Danny Green.
Green misses with a kick to the body.

Green shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Green showed some decent athleticism there.
Green not doing much here.

Green works his foot free and advances to mount.

Green with a couple of short strikes.

Green lands a big shot there that rocks Barnatt but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Green fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Green is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Barnatt is forced to tap! Great finish!

Our winner, Danny Green, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
