PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Frodo Baggins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sub Hero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hero has chosen Giant Squid - Panthalassa as his entrance music. Both these fighters are unbeaten, so somebody's 0 has got to go!The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frodo Baggins!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sub Hero!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hero changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Baggins lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hero circles away quickly and effectively.
Hero shoots in looking for a takedown. Baggins tries to sprawl out of it but Hero keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Baggins manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Baggins, right into the meat.
Hero stalks Baggins and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Baggins's face. Baggins staggers backwards, shaken.

Hero shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hero showed some decent athleticism there.

Hero wants to take a breather but Baggins is having none of it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Frodo Baggins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sub Hero.

Sub Hero seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Hero fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Baggins sprawls well initially but Hero persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Hero is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Baggins avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Hero.
Hero stops Baggins from getting back to his feet.
Hero is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Baggins gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Baggins wants to stand but Hero is controlling the position.
Hero wants to control from the top but Baggins keeps moving.

Baggins is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Sub Hero showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Hero changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Baggins looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Hero is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Baggins is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Hero has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
