PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Junior Brandon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave McGee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brandon's entrance music is Life Is Beautiful. A fine choice. The crowd seem to be enjoying McGee's choice of entrance music: Tref - Pasopvoordetrap. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Junior Brandon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dave McGee!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Robert Douchet and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGee stuffs the takedown.
McGee stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and McGee wants it to stay on the feet.
Despite the aggression on McGee's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Nice takedown defense from Brandon. No joy for McGee on that attempt.
McGee shoots and misses
and Brandon cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
McGee throws a head kick that misses.
McGee slips a jab and a cross from Brandon.
Brandon punishes McGee's body with a nice straight punch.
McGee throws a right and a left that both miss.
McGee avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Brandon tries to clinch but McGee moves out of range.

McGee closes the distance and clinches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McGee controlling the action here for a moment.

McGee escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

McGee keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Junior Brandon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McGee misses with a double jab.
McGee looks to land a body kick but Brandon moved away.

McGee closes the distance and clinches.
McGee has Brandon pressed against the cage, preventing Brandon from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
The referee calls for McGee to work.

McGee breaks from the clinch.
McGee throws a head kick that misses

so Brandon counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
McGee really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Brandon. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Brandon trying to control the position from guard on top but McGee is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Brandon's corner is telling him to maintain position.

McGee is looking to stand up but Brandon isn't so interested in that idea.
McGee looking for a sweep. Not yet McGee, not yet.
McGee wants to stand up but Brandon is controlling him.
Brandon working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of McGee's head.
McGee is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Brandon is controlling him.
McGee told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Brandon wants to control from the top but McGee keeps moving.
McGee wants to stand up but Brandon is controlling him.

McGee is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
McGee is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

McGee closes the distance and pushes Brandon back into the cage.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from McGee.
McGee is pressed up against the cage. Brandon has hold of a leg and is looking to drag McGee down to the mat. McGee avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

McGee fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Brandon blocks a low kick nicely.
McGee wants to land a leg kick but Brandon is out of range.
Brandon drops down looking for a counter takedown but McGee sprawls and moves away.
A decent looking cross lands there for Brandon.
McGee scores to the head and body with a nice combination!


It looks like Junior Brandon has been cut.

McGee pivots, looking for a leg kick but Brandon is out of range and McGee settles back down.
McGee blocks a leg kick.
McGee throws a left and a right that both miss

and Brandon counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
McGee on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
McGee is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brandon is taking a breather. McGee says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Brandon works his foot free and advances to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Dave McGee will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Junior Brandon's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Brandon looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Brandon throws a head kick but McGee moves out of range.
Brandon misses with a body kick.
Brandon throws a hook but McGee avoids it easily.
McGee unleashes a big counter combination but Brandon bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
McGee feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Brandon's calf.
Brandon scores with a punch to the head.
McGee blocks a leg kick.
Sloppy strikes from McGee. Those never looked like landing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brandon is on the wrong end of a nice combination from McGee.

McGee instigates a clinch.

McGee throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Brandon drops down looking for a counter takedown but McGee sprawls and moves away.

McGee throws a wild body kick that Brandon sees coming a mile off.
As McGee backs away, Brandon returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Brandon buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Brandon doesn't manage to clinch there - McGee circles away.
As Brandon backs off McGee throws a huge counter combo but Brandon manages to avoid it all.

Brandon scores with a takedown into McGee's guard.
Brandon sitting in guard, not really doing much.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McGee wants to sweep here but Brandon controlling him for the moment.
Brandon is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Brandon pushing down on McGee's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Brandon content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Brandon prevents McGee from standing back up.

McGee is looking to get back to full guard here but Brandon has managed to pass to side control instead.

Brandon scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at McGee to see if he's OK.
Brandon is looking to take a break and control but McGee is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Brandon is staying tight to McGee's torso, preventing him from escaping.

McGee tries to buck Brandon off but Brandon is having none of it.

Brandon in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... McGee is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

During a confident post fight interview, Junior Brandon thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
