PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Irwin Farmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jean Paul Gregory (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Irwin Farmer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jean Paul Gregory!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Trevor Gratis and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gregory lands with a kick to the temple. Farmer shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"


It looks like Irwin Farmer has been cut.
Farmer throws a sloppy head kick and Gregory moves out of range easily.
Gregory wants to clinch.
Gregory tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Farmer swivels and escapes.
As Gregory tries to get set, Farmer tries to push him back and clinch up but Gregory manages to avoid the attempt.
Farmer stuffs the takedown attempt from Gregory. Gregory gets slowly back to his feet.
Farmer is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Gregory.

Farmer drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gregory trying to strike off his back.
Gregory controls Farmer momentarily but Farmer frees himself.

Gregory has his foot on Farmer's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Farmer works his way back into a safe position though.
Farmer throws a strike but Gregory rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Farmer really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Farmer is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Farmer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Farmer is looking to stand up but Gregory isn't so interested in that idea.
Farmer will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Farmer is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Gregory tries to score with some ground and pound. Farmer controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Gregory is looking to take a break and control but Farmer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Farmer is not content to let Gregory control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Gregory feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Gregory slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Gregory is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Farmer is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Farmer has escaped and now he's on top!

Farmer drops back, looking for a kneebar! Gregory looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Gregory looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Gregory!

Farmer wants to get back to his feet.

Gregory has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Gregory is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Farmer avoids the head kick by Gregory.
Gregory tries for a takedown but Farmer circles away easily

and Farmer moves into the clinch.
Farmer is trying to push Gregory away but Gregory has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Gregory tries to pull guard but Farmer holds him up against the cage and eventually Gregory drops back down to his feet.

Irwin Farmer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jean Paul Gregory.
Gregory has a couple of punches blocked by Farmer.

Farmer changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gregory tries to avoid it but Farmer manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gregory to the ground. Gregory escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Jean Paul Gregory will probably get the nod - 10:9.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Farmer shoots in for a takedown but Gregory shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
