PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gregg Baird (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Zappa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Gregg Baird!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Frank Zappa!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, James Glass and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zappa throws an off balance right hand

and Baird counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Zappa wants to stand and escape but Baird is having none of it.
Baird throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Zappa wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Baird manages to pass to side control.
Zappa is looking to improve his position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Zappa trying to get back to full guard but Baird takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Baird will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Zappa really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Zappa wants to control but Baird is having none of it.
Zappa is in all sorts of trouble here.
Zappa tries to hold on but Baird pushes him away.
Baird lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Baird really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Baird seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Zappa is holding on tight.
Baird avoids the attempt from Zappa to control.

Zappa trying to control the action but Baird just sinks the hooks in.

Zappa is trying to get back to his feet but Baird has full control of the position and if anything, Zappa has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Zappa tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Baird cracks Zappa with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

BOOM! Baird connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zappa pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Baird is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Zappa can do to turn this around?

Zappa moves into range and clinches up with Baird.

and Baird counters with a stiff right hand.
Zappa ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Baird moves away.
Zappa looks to land a combination but Baird avoids it well.
Baird feinted with a counter takedown.

Zappa gets tackled into the cage by Baird. Baird maintains the clinch.

Frank Zappa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A head kick misses from Zappa.
A punch combination from Zappa misses.
Baird tries to clinch but Zappa moves out of range.
A right-left combo lands from Zappa.
Baird scores with a one two! Zappa had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.


It looks like Frank Zappa has been cut.
Zappa loads up on a big right hand but Baird slips the punch.
Zappa throws a jab when Baird was well out of range.
Zappa just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromBaird.
Zappa misses with a kick to the body.

and Baird counters with a nice double leg into side control. Zappa won't be happy with that.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Baird gets to mount! Zappa was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Zappa tries to lock up and control but Baird gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Gregg Baird overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Baird wants to take Zappa's back but he can't do it this time.
Zappa wants to get back to his feet.

Zappa is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Baird has taken his back.

Zappa just trying to survive but Baird is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That was a close second round but I would say that Gregg Baird will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Frank Zappa's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Zappa kicks Baird off and gets back to his feet.
Zappa throws a sloppy head kick and Baird moves out of range easily.
Zappa swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Zappa fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Baird, pushing him back against the cage.
Knees in the clinch landing for Zappa.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Baird using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Zappa has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Zappa works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Zappa postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Baird is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

We've been informed that Zappa has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Zappa wants to stand and escape but instead Baird has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Baird loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Zappa wants to get back to his feet but Baird passes into half guard.
Zappa is trying to control but can't.

Zappa tries to kick Baird off but Baird keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Zappa wants to get back to full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Frank Zappa is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Zappa lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Zappa misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Zappa lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Baird circles away quickly and effectively.
Baird half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Zappa takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Baird throws a series of punches but Zappa avoids them all with ease.
Zappa is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Zappa pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Zappa throws a body kick despite being completely out of range

and Baird counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Zappa!

Zappa is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Baird scores with a couple of nice shots.

Frank Zappa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Baird has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
