PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Buddy Brandon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Rekis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brandon comes into the arena with All Summer Long blaring out of the sound system. The crowd seem to be enjoying Rekis's choice of entrance music: AC/DC - Thunderstruck. John Rekis has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Buddy Brandon's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Buddy Brandon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Rekis!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

We've been hearing good reports from Brandon's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rekis is keen to just control but Brandon is a slippery customer.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Brandon swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Rekis drives through and clinches with Brandon against the cage.
Rekis has Brandon pressed against the cage, preventing Brandon from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Rekis prevents Brandon from breaking the clinch.

Rekis has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Brandon regains guard immediately.

Brandon fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Rekis.

Brandon tries to close the distance and clinch but Rekis swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Brandon lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Rekis circles away quickly and effectively.

Brandon slaps away a takedown attempt from Rekis, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Brandon tries to bum rush Rekis with a series of wild strikes but Rekis uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Rekis's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Brandon connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Rekis scrambles back to his feet.

Rekis shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rekis showed some decent athleticism there.

That was a close round but I would say that Buddy Brandon will probably get the nod.

Brandon clobbers Rekis with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Brandon stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Brandon wants it to stay on the feet.

and Rekis counters with a nice double leg into side control. Brandon won't be happy with that.

Rekis feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Well Brandon has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
