Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Bad Idea (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Newman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Idea comes to the cage accompanied by Boss of All Bosses . Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 44 - 28 - 2, fighting out of St Petersburg, Bad Idea!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Paul Newman!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, William Peck and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Idea moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Idea swings for the body but Newman moves out of range.
Idea throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Newman needs to keep his hands up - Idea had a free shot at his head there.
Newman pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Idea paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Idea fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Newman to the ground. Idea is now in Newman's guard.
Idea is looking to advance position but Newman has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Idea is looking to get to half guard.
Newman lands a big elbow.
Newman lands a nice shot to the head.
Newman lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Newman wants to control but Idea is keeping him busy.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Idea throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Newman lands a nice short elbow.

Idea makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Idea.

Idea had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Newman defends it easily.
Idea wants to sweep but no luck.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Newman dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Idea uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Newman throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Idea lands with a straight right. Newman didn't see that one coming.
Idea goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Newman! But no joy.
Idea throws a body shot but no joy.

Newman stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Newman wants it to stay on the feet.
Jab, jab by Idea - just one landing.
Idea shoots for a takedown but Newman saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Idea throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Newman sees it coming and avoids it easily.

and Idea makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Idea pivots, looking for a leg kick but Newman is out of range and Idea settles back down.

Newman lands with a hook. Idea tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Idea misses the shot to the body.
Idea is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Newman connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Idea momentarily.
Idea just misses with a punch to the body.
Newman walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Bad Idea seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Idea throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Newman throws a lazy right hand but Idea sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Idea swings for the body but Newman moves out of range.
Idea gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Newman.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Idea has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bad Idea. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Newman lands a big shot that drops Idea! Can he finish him?
Idea keeping moving, preventing Newman from controlling successfully.

Idea is looking for a triangle but Newman pushes his legs off easily.

Newman cracks Idea with a big right hand but Idea just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Idea takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Paul Newman has got the better of the ground game so far.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Idea throws the left hand but Newman avoids the punch easily.
Idea staying out of range there.
Newman throws a looping overhand right but Idea ducks down to avoid it.
Idea half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Idea tries to land a front kick but Newman steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Idea throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Newman sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Newman throws a push kick but Idea slaps the foot to one side.
Idea throws a low kick but Newman avoids it.
Idea lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Newman throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Idea was covering up waiting for the punch and Newman finishes the takedown easily into guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Bad Idea has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Newman is looking to advance position but Idea won't allow it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Bad Idea is winning the standup battle so far.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Paul Newman comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Newman has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In his post fight interview, Paul Newman started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
