And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ronaldo Souza!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Winston Alpacca and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Souza drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Souza trying to control but Watanabe is working from the bottom.
Watanabe keeping full guard, as Souza tries to pass.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Souza is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
We've been hearing reports that Watanabe has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Souza uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Watanabe.

Souza clinches up against the cage.

Souza looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Watanabe stands up over Souza, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Watanabe's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Souza escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Watanabe gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Souza looking to hit a scissor sweep but Watanabe is one step ahead there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Watanabe scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Souza has momentary wrist control but Watanabe slips an elbow through the middle.

Souza has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Watanabe should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Souza has tightened it up now! Watanabe should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Ronaldo Souza!

A very excited looking Ronaldo Souza rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
