And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Caesar Santiago!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Matti Vanhoillinen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Santiago instigates a clinch.

Perez trying to control the position from guard on top but Santiago is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Perez drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Santiago manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Perez has Santiago in his guard.

Santiago is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Santiago really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Perez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Perez looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Santiago must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Perez is on top in guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Santiago can do anything to dispel that myth.

Perez is fighting to break Santiago's control of his arms but Santiago is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Perez drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Perez jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Perez is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Santiago is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Perez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Santiago keeps working.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Perez looks up at the clock and then as Santiago takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Perez smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Perez wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Santiago, who protects the arm well.
Perez tries to score with some ground and pound. Santiago controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Santiago holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
You can see the frustration on Santiago's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Perez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Santiago keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Santiago tries to circle away but Perez has him pinned against the cage.

The referee calls for Santiago to work.
Santiago will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Perez up against the cage.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Santiago.

Santiago shoots for a takedown but Perez saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Perez fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Caesar Santiago showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Santiago replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Perez blocks it well.
Perez lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Caesar Santiago seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Santiago takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Perez tries to bench press Santiago off him but Santiago keeps the position.
Perez sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Everett Perez.
I think Perez has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
