Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Clifton Owens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jewel Cote (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Jewel Cote enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Clifton Owens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jewel Cote!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Gregory Folan and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cote showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Owens.
Cote unleashes a big counter combination but Owens bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Cote tries to clinch there but Owens circles away.
Cote has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Owens.

Owens dives in and scores a takedown into Cote's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Owens is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Cote is trying to control the position but Owens postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Owens tries to stand but Cote is controlling from the bottom.
Owens slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Owens throwing strikes from guard but Cote blocks nicely.
Owens is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Owens really is a fat lump.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Owens trying to control the position from guard on top but Cote is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Cote shoots in looking for a takedown but Owens manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Cote's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Cote tries to keep at a distance but Owens has taken the fight into the clinch.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Cote is fighting off a takedown attempt but Owens is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Cote to the mat. Cote regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Cote pushes Owens off and gets back to his feet.
Cote shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Owens sprawls well. Owens wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Cote gets slowly back to his feet.

Owens gets a double leg takedown into Cote's guard.

Owens with a flurry of punches that miss.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cote is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Cote will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Owens might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Owens postures up.

Owens got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cote has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Owens has managed to get both his arms back between Cote's legs - danger averted.
Owens throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Cote looking to hit a scissor sweep but Owens is one step ahead there.
Owens wanted to stand there but Cote had control of the position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Owens trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Owens feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Owens has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Cote is proving hard to escape from.
Cote looking for a sweep. Not yet Cote, not yet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Owens wants to stand but Cote is controlling his posture from full guard.
Owens's corner is telling him to maintain position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Owens throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Cote lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
A big left from Owens misses.
Cote closes the distance and clinches up with Owens, looking for a takedown. Cote pushes Owens against the cage but Owens circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Owens scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Owens wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cote keeps working.

Owens decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Owens fails to land with a series of punches.
Cote avoids the head kick by Owens.
Cote wants to clinch.
It looked like Owens was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Cote.
Clifton Owens is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A head kick misses from Owens.
Cote now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Owens misses with a wild body shot.

Owens clinches up with Cote and pushes him back against the cage.

Cote's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Owens fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Cote sprawls well initially but Owens persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Owens keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Owens's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Cote tries to get to full guard but Owens has control of the leg.
Cote throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Cote wants to control but Owens is keeping busy.
Cote is staying active underneath Owens, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Cote tries to roll over but Owens keeps him under control.

Owens seems to be looking for submissions.
Owens tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Cote.
Owens perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Further stalling from Owens.
Clifton Owens overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Owens wants to stand but Cote has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Cote drives through with a takedown into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Cote trying to control but Owens is working from the bottom.
Cote sitting in guard here, content to control.
Cote is continuing to stall.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Cote has gone for a leg lock! Owens slips out almost immediately though and dives into Cote's guard.

Cote wants to sweep here but Owens controlling him for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Clifton Owens dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!


Owens misses with an attempted mid kick.
Despite the aggression on Cote's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Cote avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Owens gets off balance looking for a body kick

and Cote counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Owens!
Cote wants to control but Owens is keeping him busy.
Owens takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cote trying to control the action but Owens is working from the bottom.

Cote is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Owens has escaped the position, nice work there.
Owens is trying to escape the position but Cote is controlling the position.

Owens is trying to control Cote's posture but Cote avoids it.

Cote jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Owens is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Owens and Cote has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Cote throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Owens regains half guard.

Cote is trying to work for a kimura but Owens is defending well.
Owens tries to roll over but Cote keeps him under control.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Owens rushes Cote and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Owens has Cote pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Owens pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Cote tumbling to the mat - Owens dives into Cote's guard.

Owens would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jewel Cote has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Clifton Owens is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Owens cracks Cote with a solid left hand.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jewel Cote comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Owens has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
