PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Christopher Levine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nanashi Goro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Christopher Levine!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nanashi Goro!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Hirohito Nitta and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Levine bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Levine is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Goro knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Goro can't do much from the bottom here.

Levine tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Goro wants to control but Levine postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Goro is trying to get back to half guard.
Levine works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Levine decides to stand back up.

Goro throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Levine tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Goro is in Levine's guard.
Levine is pulling down on Goro's head to control his posture.
Levine will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Levine had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Goro defends it easily.
Goro wants to control from the top but Levine keeps moving.
Levine wants to sweep but no luck.

Levine looking for a guillotine here but Goro defends easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Goro wants to control from the top but Levine keeps moving.
Goro might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Levine haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Goro is fighting to break Levine's control of his arms but Levine is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Levine is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Levine keeping moving, preventing Goro from controlling successfully.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Goro throws out a loose jab but Levine uses good head movement to avoid it.
Goro throws a body shot but no joy.
Levine tries to counter with a takedown but Goro is quick to defend against it.

Levine clinches with his opponent.

Goro gets control of Levine's arms and successfully pulls guard. Goro will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Goro has momentary wrist control but Levine slips an elbow through the middle.
Goro avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Levine landing some decent shots from guard.
Levine would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Levine throws a big elbow that misses.
Levine scoring with some ground and pound.

Levine stands up and waves to Goro to follow him.
Levine really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Goro throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Levine was covering up waiting for the punch and Goro finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Levine is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Goro defends well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Christopher Levine will probably get the nod.
That's time! Levine's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Goro clinches up against the cage.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Levine takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Levine is fighting off a takedown attempt but Goro is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Levine to the mat. Levine regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Levine is on top in guard.

Levine wants to stand but Goro is controlling his posture from full guard.

Levine is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Levine keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Goro's head.
Levine postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Levine postures up in Goro's guard and throws a big left but Goro blocks it.
Levine is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Goro has a closed guard, preventing Levine from standing up.

Levine gets to his feet - Goro follows without any prompting.

Levine drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Goro is looking to get back to his feet here but Levine is keeping cool and he's managed to take Goro's back.
Levine is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Goro can do to turn this around?

Levine is landing with strikes from the back.

Goro defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Levine's arms.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Goro tries to break free.

Levine is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Goro knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Goro for a finish.

Levine is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Goro defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
