PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Osvaldo Allen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mohamad Essam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Essam has chosen Last man standing as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Mohamad Essam was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Osvaldo Allen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mohamad Essam!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Felipe Paraventi and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Allen slaps away a takedown attempt from Essam, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Essam shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Allen napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Allen throws Essam to one side and escapes!
Horrible takedown attempt by Essam or perhaps it was just good defense by Allen, which made it look bad.
Essam closes this distance looking for a takedown but Allen circles away.
Osvaldo Allen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mohamad Essam.
Essam looks winded!

Allen shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Essam manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Allen is working Essam over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Essam is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Allen defends well.

Essam trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Allen with a flurry of punches that miss.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Essam is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Allen is aware though and is defending well.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Allen trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Essam controls Allen momentarily but Allen frees himself.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
A jab from Allen finds it's way through Essam's defenses.

Essam gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Essam wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Allen manages to pass to side control.
Allen could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Essam is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Allen scores with a couple of nice shots.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Osvaldo Allen dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Allen drives through with a takedown into Essam's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Osvaldo Allen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Allen lands a couple of digs.
Allen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Essam on the ground.
Essam is trying to keep Allen in close.

Essam had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Allen defends it easily.
Essam is looking to stand up but Allen isn't so interested in that idea.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Allen shoots in and gets a takedown into Essam's guard.
Allen postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Essam is trying to control the position but Allen postures up.
Allen throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Essam works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Allen throwing strikes from guard but Essam blocks nicely.

Essam is looking to cinch up a triangle. Allen throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Essam's body to avoid the submission. Essam has instead reached around Allen's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Essam arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Mohamad Essam!
A less than humble Mohamad Essam misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
