PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rhett Snow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tyler Peterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rhett Snow!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tyler Peterson!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Anthony Taglia and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Peterson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Snow wants to improve his position but Peterson is controlling well.
Peterson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Snow with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Peterson tries to stand but can't do so whilst Snow controls his leg.
Peterson wants to control but Snow is keeping him busy.
Snow tries to roll over but Peterson keeps him under control.
Snow trying to control from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Peterson wants to advance to full mount but Snow doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Snow will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Snow wants to sweep here but Peterson controlling him for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Peterson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Snow swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Peterson cracks Snow with a solid left hand.
Snow can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Peterson controls the pace.

Snow had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Peterson defends it easily.
Peterson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Snow. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Peterson wants to pass the guard but Snow is keeping the position.

Snow blocks a head kick by Peterson.
Snow fails with a takedown attempt.

Peterson jumps into guard, dragging Snow to the mat.

Snow thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Peterson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Snow controls the pace.

Peterson preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Snow gets to his feet. Peterson looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Snow shoots for a double leg takedown but Peterson sprawls well. He's pushed Snow's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Snow shoots in looking for a takedown. Peterson tries to sprawl out of it but Snow keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Peterson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Peterson takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Tyler Peterson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Snow misses with the combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Snow pushes Peterson up against the cage in a clinch.

Peterson decides to pull guard.

Peterson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Snow gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Peterson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Snow defends it easily.

Snow is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Peterson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Peterson has escaped and now he's on top!

Peterson wants to control from the top but Snow keeps moving.
Snow bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Peterson's guard.


Snow decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Snow fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rhett Snow. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Snow ducks right into an uppercut from Peterson.


It looks like Rhett Snow has been cut.
Snow throws a nice looking combination but Peterson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Peterson is looking for the big counter here.
Snow fails to land the takedown.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Snow darts in looking for a takedown but Peterson gets double underhooks and turns Snow into the cage.
Peterson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Snow misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Peterson shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Snow napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Snow is looking for a sweep.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Peterson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Snow knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Snow is looking to regain half guard here but Peterson keeps moving and retains side control.

Peterson decides to stand back up. Peterson steps back and let's Snow get back to his feet.

Peterson gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Snow jumps guard but Peterson turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Peterson drops down looking for an ankle pick but Snow pulls his leg out and moves away.

Peterson shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Snow makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Snow tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Peterson defends well and Snow ends up having to push Peterson into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Peterson connects with a high kick.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Snow gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Peterson to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Peterson works over Snow with some ground and pound from guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tyler Peterson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Rhett Snow's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Snow shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Peterson manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Snow controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Peterson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Snow postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Peterson is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Snow, into his guard.

Peterson engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Peterson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Snow has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Peterson has managed to get both his arms back between Snow's legs - danger averted.
Snow is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Peterson is not content to let Snow control the position.

Snow scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Peterson can do anything to dispel that myth.

Peterson is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Snow pulls his head out easily.
Snow seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Snow content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

I think Peterson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
