PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rock Allen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aidan McVeigh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McVeigh is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by E-Dubble - Let Me Oh. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 14 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rock Allen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Aidan McVeigh!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McVeigh closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
McVeigh throws an elbow but it misses.
McVeigh lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
McVeigh avoiding damage.
McVeigh unloads a knee to the mid-section. Allen lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
We've been hearing reports that Allen has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
McVeigh comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.


It looks like Rock Allen has been cut.
Allen blocks an elbow strike.
Allen can't get the takedown.
McVeigh prevents a takedown attempt there.

McVeigh is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Allen gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Jeez, Rock Allen's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, McVeigh just misses with a elbow thrown towards Allen's brow.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as McVeigh takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Allen has clasped his hands together around McVeigh's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
McVeigh stops Allen from passing to mount.

Allen looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


McVeigh doesn't manage to clinch there - Allen circles away.
McVeigh throws a leg kick which misses Allen's front leg but catches the back leg as Allen tries to avoid it.
McVeigh leaves Allen with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
McVeigh has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
McVeigh doesn't manage to clinch there - Allen circles away.
McVeigh tries to score a power double leg takedown but Allen sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten McVeigh somewhat.

Allen fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but McVeigh avoids it really well and circles away.

McVeigh working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Allen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Allen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

McVeigh has his foot on Allen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Allen works his way back into a safe position though.

McVeigh escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Allen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

McVeigh is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Allen defends well.

McVeigh is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Allen keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of McVeigh's head.

Allen drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and McVeigh dives on top into guard.

Allen postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! McVeigh is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Allen, into his guard.

Rock Allen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
McVeigh is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
McVeigh tries to free his leg and advance position but Allen is retaining full guard.
McVeigh throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Allen works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

That was a close second round but I would say that Rock Allen will probably get the nod.
