PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roy Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Cane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nelson kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Never Can Say Goodbye. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nelson avoids a punch combination nicely.
Cane shoots in for a takedown but Nelson shows good takedown defense.

Nelson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Nelson slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Cane is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Cane closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Cane lands in his opponent's guard.

Nelson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Cane for as long as he can get away with.

Cane is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Nelson pulls his head out easily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nelson is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Cane has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Cane!

Nelson had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Cane is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Nelson Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Cane's back instead.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
