PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mario Buzrov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Austin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buzrov kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Beauty of Annihilation Remix - The Giant Easter Egg Song. Buzrov is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mario Buzrov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Steve Austin!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Winston Alpacca and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Buzrov as Austin shoots in.
Austin has a takedown stuffed.

Austin moves into the clinch successfully.
Austin drops down looking for an ankle pick but Buzrov pulls his leg out and moves away.
Mario Buzrov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Austin.
Buzrov fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Buzrov is breathing heavily.
Austin avoids the head kick by Buzrov.

Austin moves into range and clinches up with Buzrov.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Austin is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Buzrov is defending well.
Austin is struggling to control the position.
Buzrov tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Austin avoids it.
Austin tries to break the clinch but Buzrov is controlling the position.

Buzrov prevents the takedown attempt.

Austin manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Austin is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Buzrov presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Austin has Buzrov pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Buzrov manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Austin tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Buzrov smiles and moves away.

Buzrov decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Austin has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Buzrov is on him like a limpet, forcing Austin back against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Austin goes for a takedown in the clinch but Buzrov prevents it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Austin doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Austin tries to pull guard but Buzrov holds him up against the cage and eventually Austin drops back down to his feet.
Austin tries to stall but Buzrov uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Austin tries for a takedown. No joy.

Austin jumps guard and drags Buzrov to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Austin wants to stand and escape but Buzrov is having none of it.

Austin is working an open guard so Buzrov takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Buzrov looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Austin drives through with a takedown into Buzrov's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Buzrov manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Buzrov shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Austin as he jumps to the side.

Austin clinches up with Buzrov and pushes him back against the cage.
Buzrov trying to stall but Austin improves his position.

Austin breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Buzrov throws a left and a right that both miss
and Austin counters with a good low kick that Buzrov was not able to check.

Austin fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Buzrov sprawls well initially but Austin persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Buzrov looks like he's trying to stand up.
Buzrov is staying active underneath Austin, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Buzrov makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Buzrov.
Buzrov has his hands on Austin's head, controlling the position.
Austin postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Austin pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Buzrov is keeping the position for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Austin dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Buzrov displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Austin.
Buzrov changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Austin avoids a kick to the body.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Austin.
Buzrov struggling a bit here.
Buzrov is looking for a sweep.
Steve Austin has got the better of the ground game so far.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Buzrov is working to avoid the ground and pound but Austin connects with a decent elbow.
Austin wants to control but Buzrov is keeping him busy.
Austin has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Austin decides to take the fight back to the feet.
A solid leg kick lands there for Austin.

Austin drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Buzrov looking for subs off his back but Austin has passed one foot through into half guard.
Austin has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Buzrov tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Austin wants to control the pace but Buzrov is squirming around nicely.

Austin working for a guillotine from mount but Buzrov is in no mood to give up.
Austin prevents Buzrov from getting the reversal.

Austin trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Austin controlling the pace for now.
Austin cracks Buzrov with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Buzrov is squirming around, avoiding Austin's attempts to control the action.
Austin controlling from the full mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Austin is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Buzrov is surviving well by controlling Austin's body position as best he can.
Buzrov is trying to stand but he's just given Austin his back.
You can see the frustration on Buzrov's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Austin is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Buzrov is defending well though. Austin let's go of the attempt for now.
Austin is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Austin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Buzrov gets caught flat footed, as Austin shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Austin drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Austin jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Austin is looking to work some ground and pound but Buzrov has wrist control.

Austin stands up and waves to Buzrov to follow him.

Austin fails with a takedown attempt.
Austin lands with an uppercut that bounces Buzrov off the cage and back into range.
Austin connects with a high kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Buzrov with a hook.

Buzrov gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Buzrov has his feet on Austin's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Buzrov lands with a slapping head kick.
Mario Buzrov is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Austin lands with a kick to the temple. Buzrov shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Buzrov misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Austin gets a double leg takedown into Buzrov's guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Buzrov manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Austin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Buzrov does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Austin moves into the clinch.
Austin looking for a takedown.
Austin is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Buzrov to keep the fight standing.
Mario Buzrov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Austin.
Buzrov fails to pull guard.

Buzrov pulls guard successfully.

Buzrov is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Austin defends well.
Austin slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Austin looking to sit in guard and control but Buzrov gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Mario Buzrov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Austin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Buzrov is one step ahead there.

Austin is looking for a triangle but Buzrov pushes his legs off easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Mario Buzrov.
Well Austin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
