Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between James Hickson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rene Simard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James Hickson has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Hickson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rene Simard!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Robert Twigg and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Hickson, as that shot connected.
Simard looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Hickson lands a leg kick that knocks Simard off balance momentarily.
Hickson tries for a takedown but Simard sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Hickson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Simard swivels and escapes.
Hickson shoots for a double leg takedown but Simard sprawls well. He's pushed Hickson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Hickson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hickson closes the distance and pushes Simard back into the cage.
Simard is trying to push Hickson away but Hickson has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Simard tries to pull guard but Hickson holds him up against the cage and eventually Simard drops back down to his feet.

Hickson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hickson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Simard defends it nicely.
Simard tries to counter by closing the distance.
Hickson scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Hickson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Simard avoids it really well and circles away.
Simard throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Simard displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hickson.

and Hickson counters with a three punch combo that has Simard backing up. Simard nods at Hickson to acknowledge the strikes.
Simard has worked on his takedown defense in the runup to this fight and it is paying off so far.

Hickson lands with a kick to the temple. Simard shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Hickson moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Simard stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Simard wants it to stay on the feet.
Hickson throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.

That was a close second round but I would say that James Hickson will probably get the nod.

Simard drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Simard jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Hickson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Hickson wants to free his trapped foot but Simard is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Hickson works his foot free and advances to mount.

Simard slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hickson connects with a nice short shot to Simard's temple.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Simard is looking for a sweep. Hickson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
