Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Richard Adam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Gero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Richard Adam has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Richard Adam!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mike Gero!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Matheus Silva and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gero displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Adam throws out the jab.
Gero lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Gero closes the distance and clinches.
Adam wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Gero is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Adam's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Adam is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Adam works a leg free and moves into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gero throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Adam uses his free foot to push down on Gero's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Gero.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Adam is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Gero to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Gero shrugs it off.

Gero looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Adam is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Mike Gero seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gero tries to sprawl but Adam drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Gero scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Adam manages to mount him!

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Adam cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Adam tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Adam pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Adam takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Adam has hold of Gero's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Gero manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Adam is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Gero has managed to escape the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action!



Adam moves into the clinch.
Gero tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Adam avoids it.
Gero can't break the clinch.
Gero has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Gero prevents Adam from breaking the clinch.
Adam gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Gero.
Adam keeps control of Gero as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Adam is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Gero can do to turn this around?

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Adam pulls guard successfully.
Adam is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Adam scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Gero really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Adam. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Adam content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Adam's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Adam moves nicely into side control.
Gero is breathing heavily.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Gero is letting Adam control him for a moment.

Adam has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Gero avoids the head kick by Adam.

Adam shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Adam showed some decent athleticism there.

Adam is taking a breather. Gero says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Adam works his way into full mount!

Adam tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Adam seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Gero for as long as he can get away with.
Richard Adam overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Gero gets caught napping as Adam dives in and scores a takedown. Gero manages to retain guard.
Adam is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Gero is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Adam is controlling him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Adam has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Adam continues to stall.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Adam shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Gero's guard.
Gero takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Adam wants to stand and escape but instead Gero has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Gero is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Adam has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Gero is looking to defend but Adam has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Gero! Adam pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Gero taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Richard Adam!
