And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bob Swagger!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Tiny Johnson and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Swagger closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Gates to the mat! Gates manages to get full guard.
Swagger won't allow Gates to get back to his feet.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gates is on top in guard.

Swagger can't keep his opponent in guard - Gates advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Gates is looking to advance position but Swagger won't allow it.
Gates stops Swagger from getting back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gates controlling the action here.
Gates throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Swagger tries to kick Gates off but Gates keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Gates throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Gates prevents Swagger from standing back up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Swagger can do anything to dispel that myth.

Gates is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Swagger has managed to free his arm - good work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Swagger is trying to escape back to his feet but Gates uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Swagger is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Gates decides to stand up, so the ref orders Swagger to his feet.
Swagger shoots for a takedown but Gates saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

and Swagger counters by moving into the clinch.

Swagger tightens his grip and picks Gates up, before dumping him to the ground. Gates manages to land in guard.
Swagger distracts Gates with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Swagger postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Swagger really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gates. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Swagger is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gates is breathing heavily.
Swagger works over Gates with some ground and pound from guard.


Gates is rocked!
Swagger stands up over Gates, holding on to his feet. Swagger throws the legs to one side and dives in with a huge shot that lands flush on the chin! Gates is out cold! Swagger lands a couple more shots and the ref tackles him out of the way! What a brutal finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Bob Swagger!
