PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mario Marcello (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesse James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jesse James was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mario Marcello!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jesse James!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Daniel Franklin and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marcello shoots in and drives through. James sprawls well.
James lunges at Marcello with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Marcello's hand.


It looks like Mario Marcello has been cut.
Marcello takes one to the chin there.

James drives through with a takedown into guard.
Marcello lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for James!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Marcello breaks from James's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Marcello wants to finish this one by submission but James is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Marcello.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Marcello is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But James has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from James!

Hammerfist, elbow! yells James's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
James postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Marcello had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. James is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Marcello Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take James's back instead.
James tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Marcello moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, James has worked his arm free - good work by James!
Marcello is breathing heavily.
James is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Marcello's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
James wants to get back to his feet.
James gets full guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
James escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Marcello gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Marcello is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
James trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
James lands an upkick as Marcello stands over him.
James manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Marcello manages to get himself to full guard.
James wants to control from the top but Marcello keeps moving.
Marcello looking to hit a scissor sweep but James is one step ahead there.

Marcello is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
James cracks Marcello with a solid left hand.
James must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
James scoring with some ground and pound.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
James wanted to stand there but Marcello had control of the position.

James avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Marcello throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
James wants to stand but Marcello has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Marcello is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
James cracks Marcello with a solid left hand.

Marcello is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

James avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
James sizes up Marcello with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Marcello swats away the attempt to clinch by James.
Marcello walks into a stiff left hand from James.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jesse James dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Mario Marcello's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Marcello shoots and misses

and James counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by James.

James pulls guard successfully.
Marcello in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
James striking off his back but it's not causing Marcello any problems.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now James is on top in guard.
James postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

James drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and James jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Marcello is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but James frees his head nicely. Oh but Marcello has switched to an armbar! James is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Armbar). Mario Marcello!
