KFC 2: Kennedy vs Burns PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Adam Simpson and Will Valk. Valk has chosen I Ain't Hiding as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 wins, 0 losses and 0 draws, fighting out of London, Adam Simpson !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 wins, 0 losses and 0 draws, fighting out of Los Angeles, Will Valk!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Richard Clark and Steven Brown.



The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valk misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Simpson looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Valk moves into the clinch.
Valk is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Simpson gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Simpson tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Valk has Simpson pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Valk pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Simpson tumbling to the mat - Valk dives into Simpson 's guard.
Valk's corner is telling him to maintain position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
It looks like Valk might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Valk trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Valk controls from within his opponent's guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Nice takedown defense from Valk. No joy for Simpson on that attempt.
Valk shoots and misses
and Simpson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Valk dives in for a single leg takedown but Simpson sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Adam Simpson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Will Valk.

Valk rushes Simpson and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Valk.
Valk lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Simpson .
Simpson is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Valk to keep the fight standing.
Valk missing with knees to the body.

Valk jumps guard.
Simpson being controlled here momentarily.
Valk is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Simpson wants to control from the top but Valk keeps moving.

Valk scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Valk looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Simpson is fending him off so far but Valk persists. Nope, Simpson circles away and we're back to standing.

Valk feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Valk distracts Simpson with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Valk showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Will Valk dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Valk gets a double leg takedown into Simpson 's guard.
Valk is pushing down on Simpson 's leg trying to pass to half guard. Simpson is fighting to maintain full guard but Valk has managed to sneak the leg through.
Valk not doing much here.
Valk scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Valk works his way into side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Valk stands up.

Valk has managed to clinch.
Valk tries to score a body lock takedown but Simpson shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Valk has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Valk's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Simpson shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Valk closes the distance and pushes Simpson back into the cage.

Valk manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Valk tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Simpson being controlled here momentarily.

Valk working for a triangle but Simpson defends it easily.
Valk pulls Simpson in close to his closed guard and prevents Simpson from doing any damage or advancing position.
Simpson wants to control from the top but Valk keeps moving.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Valk looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Simpson trying to control but Valk is working from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Simpson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Valk rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Simpson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Nice takedown defense from Valk. No joy for Simpson on that attempt.
Valk shoots for a takedown but Simpson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Valk shoots in but Simpson avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Adam Simpson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Will Valk.
Simpson takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Valk tries to score a power double leg takedown but Simpson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Valk somewhat.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Simpson takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Will Valk showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Simpson drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Valk gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Valk is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Simpson trying to control the position from guard on top but Valk is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Valk looking for a sweep. Not yet Valk, not yet.

Valk pushes Simpson off and gets back to his feet.
Valk shoots in looking for a takedown. Simpson tries to sprawl out of it but Valk keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Simpson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Valk is defended easily by Simpson .

Valk moves into the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Valk takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Valk has Simpson pressed against the cage.

Valk jumps guard.
Simpson wants to pass the guard but Valk is keeping the position.
Valk wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Valk throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Simpson escapes and throws Valk's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Valk is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Simpson 's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Valk is looking to improve his position.
Valk really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Simpson . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Valk gets back to full guard.
Valk is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Valk uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Adam Simpson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Will Valk is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Simpson throws a head kick that misses.
Valk tries to counter by closing the distance.

And that's the end of the fight!
Will Valk comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Valk has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3 rounds of action, we go to the scorecards for a decision.

In his post fight interview, Will Valk started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
